  • Getting tired...

Im on my 6th day and I feel that the diet is going well.

I felt super tired most of today. Is this normal?

I felt o.k. after I ate but soon after I began to feel tired, much more than I've ever felt.

    Is this normal??

    Re: Getting tired...

Hi, I am wrapping up day 13 of induction. I have actually had the opposite, I have been full of energy and havent even needed to hit the snooze button. However, I have read many posts on this site stating that it is normal to be tired. My worse side effect is that my legs feel fatigued, I mean really fatigued after even a few stairs. Anyone heard of this?

how many carbs are you eating? There is an induction like flu that I read about in the Atkins book. That may be what you are experiencing. Also if you are not eating the 20 grams of carbs you could feel fatigued. Make sure you drink lots of water and keep your spirits up, its just a temporary feeling.

For some people, the process goes too fast, and they have to up the carbs a little to feel okay. Read page 140 for details, but the Dr. said if feeling 'washed out and sickly' that one might need an extra serving of veggies or some nuts until symptoms abate. He specifically mentions 'ascent weakness,' the going up stairs Angie is reporting. Page 140 will help you a lot!

Legs... Yes my legs are soo weak. That's the biggest thing I've noticed thus far. I have gone basically carb free since starting the Atkins diet. I'll read page 140 and see what it has to say. Perhaps I might need a low dose of carbs to get me on my feet. Lol

Thanks for the replies. They always help!

Well allow me to fuss at you if you haven't been eating your veggies. That is not the way to do this! If you don't like salads, you can eat sauteed mushrooms, cooked greens, put peppers in your scrambled eggs, or Pico! yum..try mashed turnips, they are great. Veggies are REQUIRED on Atkis! (and you see what happens if you don't eat them! LOL!)

I've been eating a bowl of spinich leaves w/ a little cheese sprinkled in every night.
At least I'm getting my greens!

I think you answered your own question as to why you are tired. You have to eat carbs. A no carb eating plan is dangerous. I'm glad you like spinach. I like cooked spinach in my eggs. I also make an creamed spinach once in awhile. Spinach salads are awesome. Put some chicken, bacon and hard boiled eggs on your salad too. Yummy! Start experimenting with some different veggies that you have never tried. You may find some that you love. I found out that I love jicama. I never heard of it until I came to this board.

I just got back on Atkins after being off for 6 months. I am on day 16. When I feel tired, it is because I haven't eaten enough. I am experiencing the leg thing too. It does get better, I promise. Soon there will a surge of energy. I can wait for that.
