Yesterday at the local fair, I was wandering around while everybody in my group gorged on french fries, cotton candy, funnel cakes and all the illegal stuff. I was thinking of getting a double cheeseburger sans-bun, and happened to come across my friend who runs the local grocery store. He cuts/smokes all his own meat and makes sausages/jerky/etc. He and I had talked last week as I wanted to know what he put in his sausages/smokies to see if they were safe for me. He told me that if I wanted he'd make some smokies without any added sugar or staches (like corn starch), and he also doesn't add extra salts and preservatives (which I try to avoid as too much salt triggers anxiety attacks.) He spotted me and waved me down and told me that he had brought some of "my" type of smokies and they were selling like mad! So I got two loaded up with fried onions and didn't even miss all the "bad" food!

Re: What a treat!
That is always what I get at fairs. All the fat keeps you very satisfied. I am always amazed after eating something like that I can walk by all the other fair food and not be tempted. The trick is to always eat something high in fat right when you get there or before you go.
I'm hungry for homemade sausage now. My Grandpa used to make the best sausage. It was like nothing in the stores. Too bad we all don't have a friend like yours to make us up some great treats!Last edited by Momtofour; August 17, 2008, 03:59 PM.Michele SW250/CW 226/GW150 F, 38, 5'6"
