  • The Fat Fast

    I've said before that my Dr lost around 150 lbs on Atkins and has kept it off for almost 16 years. He swears by it especially for patients like myself (PCOS, Insulin Resistance, Metabolic Resistance)

    I lost 10 lbs on induction. Therefore you wouldn't call me so metabolically resistant. However, I was sick at that time as well and had started losing from being sick before I started Atkins. At this time. I have completed 5 weeks on Atkins. I have only lost those 10 lbs and not an oz since. My Dr wants me to do the fat fast for 3-5 days. I know he knows what he is talking about & he is watching me closely, I just get nervous about losing that much weight in such a short period of time...

    I know I will be okay, & I'm under his care every day so that if something were to go wrong, he'd see it....

    So I think I'll start tomorrow. I bought macadamia nuts cream cheese sour cream and avocados today.... wish me luck!

      My dr was very specific and went with what Dr A has in his book. I don't have the book in the house with me, but here's the basics... REMEMBER, this is dangerous for people who are NOT metabolically resistant. You should only do this if you are in fact resistant. Dr. A said that he used this on his patients who just couldn't lose any other way and to get them into lypolysis (sp) and to get their weight to budge... This is not a quick fix for getting out of a rut.

          Fat Fast Day 1:

          breakfast: 200 calories 90% fat: 3 sausage links
          snack: 200 calories of macadamia nuts w/ sea salt
          lunch: avocado/sourcream
          dinner: not sure yet but probably nice red fatty meat
          snack: cream cheese w/ vanilla/cinnamon/splenda

            This would be more calories than Atkins fat fast. How many calories are ou doing?

                    I would listen to a doctor who is monitoring you closely.. you are a lucky gal to have a doctor who is supportive. The only thing I would consider doing in opposition to your doctor is only do the fat fast as long as it takes you to get into Ketosis plus one day... Theoretically you should be in Ketosis relatively fast. THAT is the whole purpose of the fat fast. I don't think it is a good idea to do more than three days on this fast... I think there will be negative side effects, not only physically speaking, but mentally... IT IS A REALLY limited diet. the change we have made on Atkins is tough enough. ALSO make sure you have a good multivitamin in your plan.

                      I really do have a great Dr! I go to him for my PCOS/IR and he is super supportive... I think I agree that I'll just do it until I'm in Ketosis plus 1 day, however I don't have any ketosticks or money to buy them... But I know I won't survive doing it over the weekend so I won't do it past Friday for sure, or I'll end up going crazy on carbs or something I don't mind the diet yet, but I'm sure I will... I bought enough fatty stuff for through Friday...
