  • Induction to OWL

I wil be on Induction 2 weeks on 8-23, my question is how long should I realistically stay on induction. I have lost 7 lbs now, and hope for 1 or more before the end. I currently weight 285 and I am about to start swimming 1 hour a day 3 X's a week. I have been told by my physician that this is the preferred way for me to exercise, b/c of other health problems.

So, my question is do I do extended induction? Or should I go ahead and switch over to OWL. I wish I could have yogurt,it is SF and FF although, I see it is on rung 2. I can wait an extra month, no biggie, just wondered.

Any help you could give me would be greatly appreciated. I don't want to start back on extra carbs to quickly as that has always been a problem in the past.

    Thanks
    KC

    Re: Induction to OWL

I would suggest moving to OWL rung one after your first 14 days (5 net carbs extra veg) for a couple of weeks then moving to the dairy rung and if you are not craving any of the higher rung foods staying at that level for a while.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

      Re: Induction to OWL

Personally, I am terrified to move to OWL so hubs and I are on extended induction. I have a little over a hundred lbs to loose so we're extending induction as far as we can. I have only lost 7 lbs in almost 3 weeks so I want to loose some more.

        Re: Induction to OWL

Don't be afraid of OWL... it is really the basis for success in Atkins. Induction is great, and it's a necessary starting point in controlling the cravings...

I was afraid of it too, the first time around, and it's where I failed to succeed. I had that part down pat... but without the OWL steps to guide me, I didn't make it... I had to fail that part, and start over before I realized what Atkins was all about.

Do the induction, even extended induction if you need it, but please do move to OWL when it is right for you. It will guide you to the steps that you need to make to be an Atkins Success Story forever.

Remember, this is a lifestyle change... not a diet.

Calling it GOAL at this point. I'm happy with where I am now and hope to stay there, or maybe even take it down a little more.

          Re: Induction to OWL

Hi all! I am kind of in the same boat...I have been on induction for 4 weeks now and I am sort of stuck between 150-152 lbs. and going up and down. I have read that sometimes switching to OWL helps in this situation. I am still waiting on my book and am afraid to start OWL because I want to do it right. How do you know when it's time to move to OWL?

          Thanks!

            Re: Induction to OWL

I am with the majority on moving on to OWL. Especially you Teresa as you are so close to go and there are a lot of rungs to climb and experiment with.
Read the book..and all the stickies in the OWL forum..they are a great help. The rungs are where you are going to learn how to do this WOE for life and where you learn the lessons that will give you a greater chance of success at keeping the weight off. You will lose weight there as well!!

About the yogurt....during Atkins you eat the full fat variety----not the fat free stuff. Fat free or reduced fat products have added carbs in order to make up for the taste, texture and appearance lost when they took the fat out.

                  Re: Induction to OWL

I never even thought about the FF Sf yogurt! Wow, it is taking me some time to realize that I can have the real thing as long as it is without sugar. I have always eaten the same kind of yogurt, as it was the one I could eat. Lactose intolerance, etc. but I may try a different kind and see what happens once I am on that rung. It is a great way for me to get calcium, something else that doesn't set well on my stomach.

I love the WOE, I am learning so much about myself and my body.

                  Thanks for all you help.

                    Re: Induction to OWL

See if you can find unsweetened greek (strained) yogurt when you get to the dairy rung. It is really thick and yummy and you might even like it without sweetener or only just a little splenda.
