Re: Hair Loss ( Its A Reality)

i have read a LOT about hair loss. a LOT. recently, i have noticed that my hair is thinning (again) and i actually have very sparse hair above my temples. this is what i have learned. there are LOTS of reasons but in the end, if you are really concerned, do talk to your doctor.

    * hair loss occurs after a major stress. for me it was #1 my wedding and #2 most recently, a VERY stressful time. stress is BAD news. in most cases, the hair loss occurs some time AFTER the stressful event so you don't understand WHY it is falling out!

    * hair loss occurs when there is a major change in hormone level. that is why women who are in middle age will notice a thinning of their hair. it is normal. however, if the hormone level is not healthy, your doctor can help. too much DHT will attack the follicles of your hair and cause hair loss.

    * quick weight loss is considered a stress on your body and will cause hair loss for some people. the body will readjust and your hair will grow. hair grows in cycles so it can take 3-6 months. patience is the best medicine.

    * in EXTREME cases (and this probably does not apply to those who notice the hair loss in conjuntion with weight loss) hair loss is associated with thyroid conditions AND adrenal fatigue

in talking in LENGTH with several sources, including my doctor and the health food people who are GREAT at the store i go to.......it is wise for anyone to take biotin as part of your daily supplements. sea minerals are GREAT for adrenal health and the thyroid. (they taste nasty but are soooo good for you.) vitamin c-ester is also good for thyroid/adrenal health. so is royal jelly!

as in all cases, try to educate yourself. if you are really concerned, see your doctor and rule out any medical problems. if you get the all clear from the doctor, do look into natural remedies that will boost your body's good health.

the body WILL take and USE all the nutrients it possibly can. it will ONLY leave the leftovers for your skin, hair and nails. so BOOST those nutrients. take a GOOD plantbased multivitamin. include liquid sea minerals if you can (they can be a little pricey but worth it.) boost your thyroid and adrenal health naturally. and relax.

happy day for me when i looked in the mirror two days ago and was wondering about those "fly-aways" at my temples.....actually i have baby bird feathers growing back in that area! yea! i will never have that super thick hair i had as a kid. but hopefully i can keep the bald spots from taking over!

    hope this helps a little.

It still counts as weight loss, embrace it. Of course I'm a bald fat guy.

Re: Hair Loss ( Its A Reality)

I've lost comparable amounts of weight on low-fat eating plans, and never experienced thinning hair. For me, my first go-round with low carb eating triggered hair thinning. Subsequent efforts at eating low-carb haven't seemed to make the problem worse, for some unknown reason.

I'm going to start taking prenatal vitamins. They work wonders for the hair and nails of pregnant women I know.

Dr. Atkins stresses the importance of taking supplements. Calcium, Magnesium, Potassium, B vitamins, etc... Induction is stressful on the body and not intended for long term. It's very important to take your vitamins and minerals during that time especially. As you move up the rungs as you are supposed to you will find that your diet is more well rounded. I doubt that the people on rung 9 and maintenance have the hair loss problem. Review the chapters about supplements to be taken. It's very important. Not only because of hair loss but other reasons like muscle spasm etc...
