Re: Funny math on Atkins bars? I phoned Atkins....

The first reason I got suspicious was that I noticed some of the morning bars don't post the green-circle net carb on the front, anymore.

Anyway, the Atkins lady on the phone couldn't tell me any more than that they don't believe glycerin is a carb, and so it is invisibly subtracted. Some people on ADBB have told me the FDA does consider it a carb, so I guess that's why their subtraction has to be invisible to be legal, and possibly why they don't advertise net carbs on the front of as many products anymore.

I'm kinda' withering over here, tho', without my bars. They were a staple of my diet last time. (Of course, my weight loss was very slow and I blamed it on some of my prescriptions. We'll see....)

I'm going to look around on the threads and then post a new one if necessary to see what people have substituted for those "allowable" Atkins granola type bars that you can put in your purse and run.

Thanks, and a happy day to you!

Good luck Razz! I stay away from any low carb substitutes. I take the time on the weekend to package up snacks I can have on the go. A few years ago the major candy makers made low carb sugar free susbstitutes for Resee Cups, KitKat, Junior Mints, Hershey, etc. I found myself wanting too much of them, and the malitol in them did not do justice for my body if you know what I mean! It gave me cravings too - so I don't bother with any of it. In the end I stalled for quite some time.

I can't answer your questions about medications but you can get Ketostix fairly cheap at Walgreens and then cut them in half length wise to get double the amount.

Re: 3 questions from a newbie

I looked the other day at the Chocolate Peanut Butter Bar, not the candy bar, but the meal bar I guess. And it said it had 22 carbs, not sugar alcohol and like 10 fibre something like that anyway because I remember thinking that is 12 grams of carbs by the way we count carbs so how do they get it is only 2????? So I decided just don't buy them.

That's how I felt, too. But I really miss the throw-it-in-your-purse possibility.

Once you reach the grains rung of OWL you could add them back into your menus (I assume a granola-type bar will include grains as an ingredient) and see how your body reacts to them.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
