  • Thyroid and Carbs

Ok - a friend told me - and i cannot confirm - that if you're "hypothyroid" then you tend to be more carb-sensitive. As I have two of my five family members on synthroid - this was pretty interesting to me.

    Anybody know anything about Thyroid?

I'm severely hypothyroid. I take .1mg synthroid daily, and I'm learning that carbs controlled ME, not the other way around.

      Hi Thinker,

I have my own suspicions that this is the case simply because I have tried many diets and limiting carbs is the only way for me to lose weight.

Also, despite the considerable amount of exercise I do I still have to keep carbs quite low. This might just be me, however.

If you are concerned about your thyroid function, in relation to weight gain or other symptoms - such as fatigue, depression, feeling cold - I'd advise seeing your Dr, especially if it runs in the family (as it does in mine).

I was dx as hypo in Dec. of 2007, but I'm sure I've gone undiagnosed for years. I am on Synthroid 125 and Cytomel 25 and am still trying to reach optimal levels. For me, I know that if I eat processed foods and anything with sugar, I feel bad. I tend to feel better when I stay away from that stuff. I don't know if it's just a coincidence or if it's because my thyroid levels aren't where they need to be just yet, but I'm staying away from that stuff just in case. I did see an irodoligist (sp?) years and years ago and he told me I was sensitive to wheat, sugar, and some other things and told me to avoid them.

I'm inclined to believe it, too. My mom was put on synthroid over 20 years ago... I've always been very much like her... except I've no interest in going to the Doc if not absolutely necessary.

Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ from Gaspari Nutriton caught my attention though, so I tried it, in combination with some other supplements. I must say, there's definately something to be said for the results. However, the most productive thing for how I feel is first and foremost is the Atkins diet. But the tabs are not without merit...

Can you give a little more info on the Thermogenic Thyrotabs?

            Not alot on the net.

Do you experience any side effects?

            Thanks in advance!

              Re: Thyroid and Carbs

The text you can find at several websites is as follows:

              Thermogenic Thyrotabs
Synthroid® (levothyroxine or T-4) and Cytomel® (liothyronine or T-3) are illegal but the 3,3P derivative of them are NOT and is absolutely naturally occurring and never sold as a drug anywhere!
Seven years in development, specifically bio-engineered to maximize lipolysis and loss of body fat while minimizing catabolic effects on skeletal muscle tissue and endogenous thyroid hormone suppression!
Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ are unique among thyrogenic fat loss supplements in that it is both an active fat loss agent as well as a prohormone to the two most important fat loss biomolecules in the human body -T3 (liothyronone) and T4 (levothyroxine).
When used as directed, Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ can dramatically accelerate and increase your Basal Metabolic Rate (BMR, the rate at which your body burns calories at rest) by increasing body core temperature, forcing your body to burn significantly more calories. The end result is maximal fat loss.
Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ are inherently metabolically active on their own but they also serves as a substrate in the thyroid gland for even more powerful fat metabolizing hormones and are enzymatically converted directly to T3 & T4 and therefore the active ingredient in Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ is an effective precursor to those powerful fat shredding, metabolic increasing compounds. This makes Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ like 3 lipolytic supplements in one! While Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ are incredibly effective alone in mitigating fat loss, even better results may be accomplished by stacking it with Gaspari Nutritions 3rd Degree Burn™ fat loss product for a "one, two…knock out punch" against stubborn, fatty tissue. Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ are clearly the ultimate fat loss product and a "must have" supplement for anyone truly serious about safe, maximal loss of fat.
There are no other supplements being sold or that have ever been sold that are remotely as effective at inducing and sustaining fat loss as Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ while minimize endogenous TSH reduction. Accept no substitutes! The active ingredient in Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ is incredibly difficult and expensive to make. Each and every lot# of Gaspari Thermogenic Thyrotabs™ is laboratory tested for purity, quality and potency. If any other company tries to sell you this product, insist on a lab assay to insure you are getting what you paid for.

Here's a Gaspari site link: Gaspari Nutrition USA - Advanced Sports Nutrition - Thermogenic Thyrotabs

Unfortunately, this product has been discontinued awhile - funny how this seems to happen to all the good stuff....

              I found it on Ebay.

                  Re: Thyroid and Carbs

Yep, I take synthroid everyday. Didn't even know I had a thyroid problem until my doc wanted to test for it. I thought my fatigue was from age and being overweight.

The test is totally simple, it's just a bloodtest.

Mine showed I had low thyroid function. The doc started me on a small dose of synthroid per day (it's just an eensy-weensy pill). Then every month, I did a blood re-test and the doc kept upping the amount in the synthroid until my blood test showed I had great levels.

Once a year I'm retested to make sure it's still okay.

Very easy to find out if you have the problem, very simple to fix the problem.
