  • i need advice...

Ok...i have been on atkins for a few months now, i am losing so slowly....if i am lucky, i might lose one pound a week. I had lost about 140 pounds
before starting atkins (low calorie, excercise). But i stalled, so i thought
if i do atkins, i would be 'shaking' things up a bit. The first 3 days of induction i lost 5 pounds, but since then, it has been slowww. I do not cheat, AT ALL, i drink LOTS of water, i still have my carbs at 14 to 18 a day. I watch my calorie intake also. It stays at about 1200 to 1300 calories daily. I now weigh 215, i am 5 foot 4 inches, and i am 38 years old. I go to curves gym 3 times a week, and walk about a mile twice a week. What am i doing wrong? I still have a lot of weight to lose. I want to try for 140 pounds right now, maybe lower. But the pounds are just being stubborn. I have thought about doing the meat and egg fast. I eat
a salad every day (2 cups lettuce, half cucumber, 1 wedge tomato) for my veggies. Then mainly i have two fried eggs for breakfast, 1 slice cheese, and a protein (sometimes sausage, or canadian bacon). With my salad at lunch i have chicken ( baked, wings or drumsticks). At dinner i have 2 more eggs (hard boiled or fried) 1 slice of cheese, and another protein, usually chicken breast. I would appreciate any advice and suggestions on what i need to do, or what i am doing wrong.
    Thanks,
    Pamela

Why do you think you are doing something wrong? You have, according to this post and last, lost 11 pounds in just over a month, and this is not counting the initial induction weight lost, which typically includes a few pounds of water. I don't see anything wrong in particular with your eating or exercise - though the information is quite limited.

The less additional weight you need to lose, the slower you should expect to see it go. I think it is fantastic you've lost so much on top of that 140 already!

Thanks for the comments. I used to lose 3 pounds a week. And i guess i am missing that, lol. But as time goes by, it is slowing down more and more. I see how a lot of people lose BIG on atkins, but i suppose i am not one of the 'lucky' ones. I know i will not give up or turn back no matter what....this is my new way of life. I eat to live, not live to eat anymore.
      Have a great week!!!

Maybe you should stop doing an extended Induction and move to the On-Going Weight Loss Phase.

I have thought about that, but i am scared that since my weight loss has slowed down, if i add more carbs then it will only get worse. I just ordered me a digital scale to have at home and i am going to start watching closely what is affecting me daily. I might do the ongoing phase then.
          Thanks!!

Have you thought of the fact that now you weigh less then you did that every pound you lose is now a higher percentage of your body weight?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

At some points in our weight losses we sometimes just have a phase where we aren't losing on the scale. I haven't been losing on the scale very fast lately, but my back fat roll disappeared. I am losing inches even when it isn't showing on the scale. Megs and Elizellen gave you great advice.

Great job on your weight loss so far. That is fantastic!!!

                  Re: i need advice...

I agree with everyone else, I am not losing a pound on that scale but losing inches. For example, in 10 days I have lost 3 inches off my thighs and 1 inch off my waist. A pound a week is GREAT in my opinion. As someone said on here (think it was Tom), it is best to lose at a slow rate than fast.

Dr. ATkins wrote that the only people who may benefit from doing Induction longer than 2 weeks were the people with a high metabolic resistance to weight loss because doing Induction a little longer might correct some of the metabolic imbalances that impede weight loss.

You'll be surprized at the number of people who stay on Induction (even though they are average to low metabolic resistance), do okay on it, then hit a plateau that is only broken once they start doing the diet properly by moving to OWL Phase. I don't know why that happens, but Dr. Fred Pescatore, a former associate of Dr. Atkins, wrote that the body gets used to a low level of carbs and stops losing weight.

Hi...i was wondering how you all moved on to the ongoing weight loss phase? I would love any advice on that. I guess it would not hurt to try that and see what happens. Then go from there, lol. And i would also like to ask if my calorie intake sounds ok? I eat about 1200 - 1300 calories a day. I weigh 215 pounds, 38 years old, 5 foot 4 in. I have tried a lot of different calorie calculators, and all of them had way different results, some by a 1000 calorie difference!!

                      Thanks again, Pamela

                        Re: i need advice...

I am not one who counts calories, but your 1200/1300 seems a little low for someone of your weight. However, if you eat to appetite you will no doubt have some higher and some lower calorie days so will even out over time.

As for starting OWL - the first 'rung' (as we call the levels of the carbohydrate ladder) is to add 5 net carbs of the induction-legal veggies. So eat the same as on induction but with the extra veg and see how it affects your body/weightloss.

If you are adding a veg that you havent been eating on induction then add it only 3 times a week and on the other days add 5 net carbs more of the veg you have been eating all along.

There are several good threads at the top of the OWL forum which should give you some tips.
