  • I'm in HEAVEN!

So while going through my new DANDR book yesterday, I discovered I could have some heavy cream, so I bought some and whipped it up with some splenda. I put about 2 1/2 tablespoons in a little bowl, and then sprinkled some lemon-lime sugar-free drink mix that I got from WalMart (made with splenda, not aspartime) and OH MY GOD...it tasted like a key lime pie filling!!! Today I did the same but put some of the tangerine-orange drink mix and it tasted like I was eating an orange creamsicle. Absolute heaven!!! This will make life so much easier, as its not so much the "sweet" tastes that I've missed but I LOVE the sour tartness of citrus. Lemon merangue and key lime pies are my favorites, so this will keep those desires at bay. I'm also going to try a lemon-curd recipe I found that's induction friendly.

That is so awesome! A reason I love atkins. I am so glad you found something you liked!

However, a tablespoon of heavy whipping cream has 1 carb and Dr. Atkins said to count one splenda packet as 1 carb. - so just be a little careful!

Yes its wonderful to find something that just hits the spot. I'm careful about the carbs, and have kept everything pretty much under 10 a day for the last few days. Today I think I totalled 14.

This is nothing compared to the positive shock I had yesterday after putting some "sauce bearnaise" next to my pork steak. And guess what: 0.0 grams of net carbs!

Oh, kathy dear, there is no recipe... I have no time to cook. I just bought the sauce from the supermarket and made sure it says 0 net carbs on it.

Remember that when you buy from the store that you check the ingredient list as well. Even products with small portion size (1tbs?) can contain illegal products. And if the product contain less that a whole carb (say 0.6 carb) they can legally claim 0 carb on the label.

I also love all the wonderful things we can do with Atkins. One of my favourite treats is mushroom - cream sauce with my steak.

                  Re: I'm in HEAVEN!

Yes, I understand that. But as a young person (and eligible) bachelor, my work schedule is too tight to take the time to prepare sauces at home, so I try to do my best under the circumstances... For me, the fact that I haven't eaten any carbs for two whole days is a great leap forward...

I will see how I go with my first induction week and adjust accordingly.
