  • embarassing question about GAS

Ok I know this question is anything from ladylike, but I have to know if anyone is getting gas from atkins? I've been on it since July 28th and have lost almost 10 lbs.... lately, especially, I've had such bad and frequent gas that it's embarrassing. I'm not sure if it's the protein getting broken down or what! I am following all the rules and haven't eaten anything unusual.
So if anyone has any info for the cause or advice, I (and my husband he he) would really appreicate it.
    Thanks,
    Sue

Actually, just the opposite happens to my husband and I. We don't have any gas while doing Atkins. Which is a miracle if you knew my husband. I assumed everyone had less gas on Atkins. It will be interesting to see what others say.

Bad gas can be a symptom of Candida problems. Why not browse the Candida forum and see what you can find out?

I have less...in fact hardly any...can't even remember the last time. You could also post your menu and we can see if there is something there you are or aren't doing that may be affecting your body.

I agree... post a menu or two in the "Review my Menu" forum. You might need to tweak something.

Okay so here is a sample menu:

            Breakfast :
1 egg and 2 egg whites scrambled with a little cheese on top (sometimes I add a little green pepper and tiny bit of onion)

            Lunch:
Salad with Romain Lettuce, Grilled chicken strips (or tuna) with ceasar dressing or ranch dressing.

            Snack:
A few slices of turkey rolled up with mustard to dip

Dinner: Varies, but usually some type of grilled meat, some veg (from the allowed list)

I have also noticed my breath is just AWFUL lately. No matter how much I brush. I read this is part of ketosis. Could the gas be too?

Hmmm...the menu looks good. Have you noticed if it happens when you eat a certain veggie..IE cabbage or broccoli? You may want to see if it is your body reacting to a veggie. The breath is ketosis...the gas is not...LOL...but if it is you certainly burn your fat in an interesting way....LOL!

Interesting thread, I hadn't thought about it until reading this, but I used to have a LOT of gas when I was eating all the high carb foods. Its practically gone now.

                  Re: embarassing question about GAS

                  Hi,

I too enjoy a gas-free existence with Atkins. As soon as I eat carbs such as potatoes, sugar, rice or bread, I get gas and cramps. This is one of the major reasons why I do not cheat very often. It is difficult to convince myself that the pain, smell and social embarrassments are worth it.
