  • But which ONIONS ?

Does anyone know what kind of onions have the least carbs?

I cook with the big white onions should I switch?

    Thanks

    By the way...

I have been very bad and stopped the Atkins for a week....When I saw I ate a whole cereal box I stopped and decided that this had to stop and went on again today.

I was last 220 and today 223 so before it got any worse I said lets start today a new induction.

Oh after I was in induction for about 3 weeks I didn't seem so oily and I thought to myself maybe its the new cream or something.

ONce I got off this week boy am I a shiny face with so much oil....Yes i went carb crazy do you guys think its that?

Not much variance in onions counts.

Onion Types Carb Chart - Low Carb

I would say, eat the onions you like.

Eat a whole box of cereal, yup, that is the sort of thing I can do when I am eating carbs. Three bowls of shredded wheat squares is ridiculous.. but easy.

Your complexion could well be telling you something, yes, you should listen!

What a smart lady you are, you have set a reasonable goal with giving yourself a year to lose your weight. I like it when I see realistic goals! Wishing you much success.

The lowest carb onions are what we call spring onions in UK -I think they are called green onions or scallions in USA - which have about 5 net carbs per cup (about 100 grams).

Another lowcarb way of adding an onion-y taste is to use chives which are a herb that look like miniature spring onions but you only use the tops of, and have about 1 net carb per cup.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Hi. I believe the purple onions have more sugar in them, but if you only use a little bit you should be good. My trick is to cut them VERY VERY thin, so you feel like you get more. Also, try adding onion powder to scrambled eggs (just check the ingredients first). Good Luck.

I love just regular yellow onions, cut up and fried in butter with a few chopped up scallions as well. Excellent over sausages, or steak, or even in an omlette.

Oh thank you pictures really help...

I will try the skinny spring onions...but can you eat the tails too?

I decided to change my goal time frame...I know a year is realistic but I sort of thought it was a little to fast...I think I will give myself until my next Birthday 12/12/09

If I finish before hand....I will be very happy

I just cut off the roots and any brownish bits off the green end of the skinny spring onions and use the rest of them.

                Re: But which ONIONS ?

                Hello,
Leeks are another good choice for onion. Very similar to the green onions that Eli mentions above. I choose onions that are lower on the GI (glycemic index). I've found the lower the GI on my food choices along with counting my carbs, the easier it was to lose the pounds.
Dr. Atkins explains the GI on page78-84, 92, DANDR. He describes it as being "A beautiful tool".

Glycemic Load of Carb Foods - GI in Food Serving
Our skin can tell us alot about our eating habits. The healthier we eat, the healthier our skin is. Also, keeping ourselves hydrated with lots of H2O is so healthy for our skin.
Wishing you the best of health and lite!
