  • Soy Sauce...induction legal???

I assumed it was allowed during induction. Linda's site even has induction marked recipes with it. However, as Sherri pointed out to me today...

<<I go by what I see in the ingrediant. I see soybeans, which is a lagume, therefore on Rung 6 lagumes. I see wheat in the ingediants, therefore that is in Rung 9 whole grains.>>

So what is the deal on soy sauce...legal during induction or not?

    That's a really good question.

In my opinion of trying to stick close to a clean induction as possible when I restarted back in June, I stayed away from it. I loved making chicken stir fry and having that as a flavor enhancer, but because of trying (but not perfect all the time) to be a purist during that time, I left it out. It's worth waiting to add later on

      According to recipezaar.com
soy sauce is a salty, brown liquid made from fermented soy beans mixed with some type of roasted grain (wheat, barley, or rice are common), injected with a special yeast mold, and liberally flavored with salt
thus making it a grains rung addition in OWL.

Okay...I CANNOT be the only one that was in the dark about that! Well...Linda too...which a lot of people do her recipes. So I think there are a lot of us out there that did not know that and are using it...even if it is very sporadically like me. I am sure some are out there using it even more. Very interesting.

I suppose as it is one of those condiments that we use sparingly on the whole, most people don't think about it

            Hi,

Soy sauce that is not made with wheat is allowed on induction (tamari, Bragg's). I use Bragg's and really like it. It has a lot less sodium than the other ones.

Regular San-J brand organic soy sauce and tamari has a whopping 1000mg of sodium per serving.

Reduced sodium San-J brand tamari has 700mg per serving

Regular Bragg Liquid Aminos has 200mg per serving

I get my Bragg's Liquid Aminos at my health food store.

If you want confirmation of soy being okay, you can go to the website of Jacqueline Eberstein:

            The Atkins Lifestyle

She was the nurse that worked with Dr. Atkins. Soy sauce is listed under allowed condiments.
