  • Is this really just 1 net carb?

I can not seem to wrap my head around the whole net carb thing, and this just seems too good to be real

    Yoplait Source yogourt (with splenda)

    per100g

    cal 35
    fat 0
    cholesteral 0
    sodium 50 mg
    carbs 5
    fiber 0
    sugars 4
    protein 4
    vit A 6%
    calcium 10%

Is that 1 net carb then?

Hmm, well if you're just trying to understand the whole net carb thing than just remember to subtract the fiber count from the carbs. So there are still 5 carbs in this yogurt.

      No that is 5 carbs.
If it had contained fiber you would have subtracted it. You can only subtract fiber.

            That is true
I was wondering if I should say sugar alcohols when I wrote that but decided against it. All my reading on it suggest that some people may digest sugar alcohols the same way they digest sugar (the carbs may be metabolized like any other carb). I would not use sugar alcohols in induction. I think that maybe later when people can read their reactions better, they can try and see how they react.
Here is a thread on it

But sugar is sugar Kellarina. If it was sugar alcohol it would say sugar alcohol. The sugar in that yogurt is lactose - a natural sugar in milk - that you have to count.

Hmmm...but since if you are eating that wouldn't it mean you are on the dairy rung and wouldn't that make it a handy measured out way to add your extra 5 carbs of dairy in??? Or am I understand that wrong?

I agree Elsie 100 grams is not a huge portion, but it would be a good OWL dairy rung addition.

Kellerina, I notice it had zero fat listed - I usually go for the full fat versions if possible which have less sugar as far as I know.

                Edited to add:
I googled it and see they dont offer a higherfat version
This makes it a relatively carby food as according to this nutrition panel I found it contains

100 grams, 3.5 oz. I had to look it up! Yes, a small cup of yogurt there.

Krogers has a 'Carb Master' yogurt, 4 carbs per 6 oz. Stick with vanilla until you get to the fruit rung of OWL.

The Greek or the Balkan yogurts are really good choices. They have lots of fat and therefore fewer carbs - you can add your own taste to it. Some essence or some flavored sugarless syrup. I always use berries after I reached the berry rung. Very yummy. I often make my own yogurt with whole milk. Easy and tasty.

                      Good suggestion. Liv
The unsweetened Greek yogurt I buy has about 5 carbs per 200 gram, which is a good-sized serving. And with blueberries added to it (OWL rung 4) I don't often feel the need for any added sweetener! I usually put it in the freezer compartment to make my own yo-icecream!
