  • Diet vampires

You've heard of "emotional vampires" - those kind of people who can't stand that you are happy and have to do something, anything to suck the happiness out of you and make you feel as miserable as they do because misery loves company.

I have some friends/family whom I call "diet vampires." They use guilt trips to try to make you go off your diet. They're the people who get upset when you say you'd rather go to a Chinese buffet where you can pick/chose veggies and healthy meat than a pizza parlor so you are able to stick to your diet. They're the people who get angry when you decline to eat the cake/cookies they offer when you're over for coffee, saying they "specifically baked them for you." They're the people who start crying and throwing a fit when, after being invited for dinner, only eat a salad because all they've made is lasagna and garlic bread. They're the people who say "Why do you need to lose weight? You're perfect just the way you are!"

I'm determined to rid myself of diet vampires, and surround myself with people who are loving, supportive and understanding. I find it so funny that I see people congratulating others when they go on a low-fat or low-sodium diet, but the minute you mention low-carb they start hauling out the cakes and cookies and pasta dinners. You're stuck with a choice - either you say no, and the person in question tells you that you'll never be healthy on aforementioned diet/WOE, or you give in and the person in question says "SEE?? I knew you could never stick to it!"

So lets work together to eliminate diet vampires from our lives!!!

I have WAY too many of those in my life. It bugs me. I know that back when I was skinny and not on a diet (man, that was a long time ago lol!) if someone said they were on a diet, I tried to work around their needs - not guilt them into eating something they shouldn't!

I used (notice the used lol) to have a friend that would call me and tell me what she was eating whenever i was trying to watch what i was eating. She was one of those thin people that can eat anything and stay that way. She had been really jealous (to the point where i had to end the friendship) when i had lost weight the first time and got more attention then her. So she would call me and tell me she was eating foods from my fav restaurants, the exact foods i ordered from them. After awhile i gave in and decided she was always going to be a toxic friends so i told her we couldnt be friends anymore. Amazing how much my mood has improved since lol.

            Re: Diet vampires

This lady I work with rolls her eyes and tells me "Well, you shouldn't weigh yourself so much and maybe try to eat differently." whenever I tell her I've lost another pound. I have stopped telling her anything. I think it's jealousy because she did weight watchers for 3 months and only lost 14 lbs, then gave up. I've lost 11 in a month! And I only weigh myself twice a week.
Then of course there's this other lady I know that just does Atkins all wrong! Then preaches about how she does it and how it's the right way and how much weight she's loosing.....arg!
