You've heard of "emotional vampires" - those kind of people who can't stand that you are happy and have to do something, anything to suck the happiness out of you and make you feel as miserable as they do because misery loves company.
I have some friends/family whom I call "diet vampires." They use guilt trips to try to make you go off your diet. They're the people who get upset when you say you'd rather go to a Chinese buffet where you can pick/chose veggies and healthy meat than a pizza parlor so you are able to stick to your diet. They're the people who get angry when you decline to eat the cake/cookies they offer when you're over for coffee, saying they "specifically baked them for you." They're the people who start crying and throwing a fit when, after being invited for dinner, only eat a salad because all they've made is lasagna and garlic bread. They're the people who say "Why do you need to lose weight? You're perfect just the way you are!"
I'm determined to rid myself of diet vampires, and surround myself with people who are loving, supportive and understanding. I find it so funny that I see people congratulating others when they go on a low-fat or low-sodium diet, but the minute you mention low-carb they start hauling out the cakes and cookies and pasta dinners. You're stuck with a choice - either you say no, and the person in question tells you that you'll never be healthy on aforementioned diet/WOE, or you give in and the person in question says "SEE?? I knew you could never stick to it!"
So lets work together to eliminate diet vampires from our lives!!!
