  • A couple of questions from a Newbie

I am new here and in the second week of my induction. It's going pretty well overall. I've read the book, keeping the rules to the letter and am well into the purple range in ketosis. I have lost 9 lbs overall so far, most of it in the first 5 days. I have my doctors support on doing Atkins and saw her the other day and all is well but in the last couple of day there have been a couple of odd things happen and thought I would seek out your knowledge.

One is that when I go to the gym I am unable to put out the effort that I usually do. My muscles feel weak and I'm doing less than half my workout. My energy level is good overall during the day, it's just my muscles don't seem to want to do their job at the gym.

The other is that I am breaking out in hives, mostly in the evenings. I know hives is an allergic response but the foods I am eating are one's that were part of my preAtkins eating habits. Everything else is the same.

Just wondering if anyone else has had the same reactions. I guess if they don't clear soon I'll be back to the doctors office.

I get hives from too much sun/heat or when I build up too much body heat from exercise!!
Sorry, I know that's no help....my point is that any number of things can make your body react, and maybe you should check with your doctor.
As for the muscle fatigue....are you done with induction? It may help to move up one step.

Greeat! Kudos on the 9lbs. way to go! Congrats! Your fantastic, keep up the good work. You rock!

I agree, if you are still in induction your carb level might not be high enough to promote the workout. The other thing you might want to consider is eating something higer in carbs a half an hour prior to your work out. It will give you the energy you need to do the workout. Just a thought.

        Thanks Chicklady and Shaunawa!!

That makes perfect sense about the workout's. I'll try it today! I used to drink a protein shake before going to the gym but the one I use is off limits during induction. It has way high carbs.

I think I've figured out the hives too. I have been taking L Glutamine and I didn't take it yesterday. No hives. I'll try it today and see if the hives return. A very scientific experiment.

From all I've read Amino acids aren't supposed to have reactions or interact with anything else however there is always a possibility of anything.

I have to figure out how to put my goals and an avatar of here!!

Newbie... you can go to the user cp and off to the left there is an edit portion where you change and add info.

I still dont know how to post pictures and such though. I would love to do the before and after photos. I think a reminder out here would be good for me. But I am still working on that.

Hope all goes well at the gym for you today.

Re: A couple of questions from a Newbie

Adding pictures and other stuff to your signature is quite easy, folks.

Here is a (long) explanation of how to do it.

            Adding a Signature
If you click on the 'Quick links' link in the blue bar at the top of the screen or the 'User CP' link there you will see an option called 'Edit signature'. select that and a text box will appear like the one that shows when you click on the 'go advanced' button' when replying to a thread.

In that signature block box you can add anything you want - useful stuff is to add your age/gender/height as well as your start/current/goal weights - including photos. You can click 'preview signature' to see if it looks how you want it and use the text altering tools at the top to change colour and size as well as font. Click on 'preview signature' again to see it worked then click on 'Save signature' when you are happy with it.

            Displaying a photo
To have a photo show the url of it has to have the image tags round the url which are [img] and [/mg] with no spaces. The photo has to be 'hosted' somewhere on the www. If you dont have them hosted anywhere or you want the convenience of having them on this site you can upload them into your own Album here.

Uploading a photo to ADBB to use in your sig and elsewhere
To do that choose 'User CP' then select the 'pictures and albums' option. As I have added several albums I get to choose which one to upload my photos into. I am not sure if there is a default album for everyone or of you have to choose 'add album' and give it a name to start off with as it has been a while since I started using the albums feature here.

Once you choose an album you will see the option 'Upload Pictures'. click on that and some boxes with the word 'Browse' beside them will appear. Click on one of them and you will see the files in your computer and be able to select the name of the picture you want to upload. Click on the name of the file then click 'open'. You can choose 3 pictures in turn if you want. BTW it will say below the boxes the max size of the pictures you can upload. Best to save them previously to this size (600 pixels max in either direction) to save time, as if your photos are bigger it will take ages to upload them. (don't ask how I know this )

Then click the button 'Upload pictures' and you will be shown the pictures you have selected. If you are happy that you have chosen the right photos click on 'Save Changes' and you will be shown your uploaded pictures.

To find the url of them click on the photo and it will open in a screen with some boxes underneath. The second box is called BB Code and has the url with the image tags already applied so all you need to do is click on this box and copy the line of type then edit your signature (as described above) and paste your pictures in.

            Adding your avatar
Avatars can be chosen from the 'Edit Avatar' option on your User Control Panel.

I hope this makes sense! If not ask away and someone else can have a stab at it!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

A quick start at it. Time for the gym!!!

Ate some protein and carbs a little bit ago. Maybe the legs and arms will work today.
