I am posting here since hoping someone will see it that can help me. I am dating a man of chinese heritage and we've run into a problem. ALL of the spices and sauces he cooks with are full of sugar. Even the dried up shrimps are coated in the stuff. So far I have been rationing when he cooks and compensating at other meals. But I would like to learn to cook the foods he likes anyway. Now, most of the cooking sauces have between 3-7 carbs per TBSP. I know that sugar was not always a part of these sauces though. Does anyone know of any companies that sell traditional chinese sauces without sugar, using cane or agave or at least have less sugar than the typical Dynasty Brand (I'm desperate and will take what I can get). I'm talking about things like Hoisin, powdered shrimp, Black bean sauce, Oyster sauce and fish sauce (I.e. everyday chinese staples)

Re: Help me please!!! Chinese Sauces
No luck at all and can't even find recipes for making my own! *sighs* Luckily he is being careful to reduce the amounts he uses and sugar doesn't affect me the way grains or even fake sugar does (does anyone else find fake sugar is worse than real sugar for cravings and mood swings etc?). I'll eat maybe 10 grams worth on friday night and the next day the cravings don't jet until about noon *grumbles* Rationing takes so much self restraint and is a pain in the butt. He's been looking in the chinese supermarket but nothing is coming up.
