  • Ketostix from Moderate to Trace

Ok- hopefully someone can help me figure out whats going on here- For the past week, my ketostix have been going from trace to moderate, even close to a large amount of ketones detected. Then today, my ketostix started going from moderate to small, and right now it registered back as trace. I did eat some foods that I normally dont eat i.e. wendy's burger no bun- I checked the menu's nutrition facts and what I ate only totalled up to 2 carbs, then later I had homemade chicken salad- included mayo, celery and green onions. Later in the evening I had hot tea with some heavy cream and splenda. These are the only things I can think of that would have changed my levels. Is this normal? Is this a bad sign like I think it is? I've already looked in the book and can't find info on Ketostix regressing- the only advice was to take out a salad. Can anyone shed some light on this situation? As always your help is appreciated- Thanks a bunch!

Abbey, as long as there is any change at all, that's all that matters. The amount does not matter. Either you are producing keytones or you are not. It's like being pregnant. They can test your hormone level and it can be elevated a little bit or a lot but either way you are pregnant.

If you know you are eating right the sticks arent really necessary. Use them for when you are stalled or to check if you're still in ketosis after a cheat. Worrying about what they say each day can be just as maddening as constantly checking the scale. And expensive.

    Hope this helps.

You are so right, its like I've become addicted to Ketostix- ha ha! I'm already on my second bottle, so yeah... I think you've made an excellent point. The good news is that this morning- the sticked turned a dark purple again- woo hoo! I know its bad to check ketones and the scale every darn day- but by doing this, I am seeing how much your body does fluctuate and its becoming more normal to see the ups and downs.

Once you track it awhile and see just how much you fluctuate, you may decide to ease off on the checking.

I must admit i'm a bit of an addict with the stick's myself, i just like to make sure it's all still happening.....and it is.
I'm pretty sure i could do without them as i know how far i can push the boat out, and it's not very far!.
One thing i have noticed, since putting the blocker's on the Splenda, i seem to be more purple than pink.

Hey Swordfish, so you mean that when you cut out the splenda you get a deeper reaction? Have you tried that Stevia people are talking about? I wonder if using this, or any other sweetner really have that much of an impact on the amount of ketones we're burning. I mean gosh, Can't I have my sweetner and eat it too?

                Hi abbeyrd1,
It appear's to be so with the Splenda. I was having 3 or 4 cup's of coffee (decaffinated) a day, with 1 Splenda pill in each one.
I don't bother with the sweetner at all now.
But what i have started doing is to have cream in it instead, but more like a Gaelic Coffee (without the Whisky ). I pour the cream, or try to, so that it actually float's on top of the coffee. Then you get the hot coffee through the cold cream. A good bit of contrast going on, and i like it very much .
I've thought about the Stevia, which to me sound's like a better idea with it being totally natural. And of all the sweetner's available, if i was going to use one again i would give the Stevia a whirl.

Yes, I totally agree with the cream trick- I just discovered putting the cream on top of a cup of hot tea- D-Lish! Maybe I should try it next without the sweetener and see how I like it- Thanks!

Swordfish...you are so right. I dont know what I would do without my Jello. I also just read that they have come up with sugar free pudding made with splenda this time around. But it has a total of 6 carbs...pretty high for me.

Just been thinking, for something special...... maybe a bit of egg custard to go with it would be not bad, made with egg's, double cream, some vanilla and a drop of the old sweetner in at the end.

The nearest were going to get to a trifle anyway
