  • what to do for the stomach flu??

Hi, I'm new to adkins and am doing pretty good so far. here's my dilemma: My kids came down with the stomach flu... I always get it a few days after they do. what do I eat??? I don't want to waste my induction period and have to start all over again! I was thinking just lots of broth and water... but what about the bland diet? I don't think I could stomach eggs or chicken breast or cheese after recovering from the stomach flu. is it safe to stay on induction or at least not eat any carbs when you have the stomach flu??? I would ask my doctor, but he is anti-atkins. for any of you atkins veterans out there any input would be appreciated. Mind you I do not have the stomach flu yet, but it is only a matter of time before it hits me as it has invaded the rest of my family.

lol forward planning taken to the extreme there :P

You may not get it so I'd not worry about it until you do and if you are sick then you are sick and my advise would be eat what you can manage. some plain chicken and maybe some homemade atkins friendly soup should be fine but we all react differently.

Hope your kids are feeling better

Don't worry about eating solid food while sick. Your body is not up to digesting it so it gets rid of it as fast as it can. Do keep well hydrated. Broth is really good, especially if it is homemade. Some chicken with the bones in it, slow simmered, has a lot of enzymes and electrolytes in it. When you are some better, shred some of the meat and add it in.

After you are better, slowly add back in things like soft scrambled eggs and easy to digest veggies like green beans and summer squash.
People who say it can't be done, should not interrupt those doing it.

I would stick with the broth. Maybe if you could bake some chicken breast. It would be very bland and you could just nibble tiny strips pulled off as the tummy will allow.
Good luck! I hope it passes you by!

thanks all for the input. I'm sipping on swanson broth and tea w/splenda. I put some crystal light in the freezer pop molds to see how that works so I can have something icy.
