Can anyone tell me why I am not spilling ketones. I have tested my urine for two days and my strips are not changing. I have also gained two pounds. Please help. I am considering going back to weight watchers.

Maybe u could up your fat intake. And also if I drink a lot of water my strips will be negative its not that I'm not in keotosis I think its that my urine is diluted like I drink so much and expel so much the ketones don't have time to build up, does that make sense? I would review my menus's and see to make sure u aren't over doing it on the carbs and see where u could take in a little more fat. Bacon and eggs some veggies cooked in a little butter, etc. And just wait it out u can't always go by the strips, some people say they never have positive strips but lose weight!

Tell us what you eat and drink in detail and we'll see what is up.

        Re: Out of Ketosis

Yesterday was a bad day, I did not eat right (no carbs but not enough food either).

Normal daily menu is egg with two pieces of bacon and one slice of american cheese and coffee with lt cream.

lunch is typically a salad with meat usually chicken with olive oil and red wine vinegar.
When I get home I have a fatty snack, 5-6 olives or a pice of cheese.

then dinner is what ever is left over in the fridge with a pickle or somthing like that if I am alone. or meat and a vegetable if my family is home and we eat together.

I have not been drinking enough water, could that do it? I assumed it would slow down the weight loss but not take me out of ketosis. Even the crappy taste in my mouth is gone.

It looks good but you are not specific enough?
          How much of everything?
          How do you prepare it?
          What veggies?
          How much cream and coffee?
          What do you drink when?

If you are unsure about what you eat start writing it down. Everything.
          Do you use fitday?
          Do you exercise?
I saw from an earlier post you ate berries? Did that stop?
          What exactly did you yesterday?

            Re: Out of Ketosis

Liv may sound a little harsh (tone is hard to perceive in a forum post!), but she is dead on. I hate journaling and tracking what I eat, but when I first started Atkins, I tracked every nibble and lick of the finger on FitDay.com. I immediately noticed that my cheese "snacks" were close to 3 ounces at a time rather than 1 ounce, and that I was using far more than 1-2 Tbsp of cream per day for my coffee.

I would suggest tracking specific quantities, minimizing dairy (I know -- it's such an easy snack food), and upping the water. You should be using heavy cream instead of light (and perhaps a little less of it). Try to stick with decaf if you must have coffee as caffeine has different effects for different people.

Attempt to be super strict for one week solid to see if there are positive results before assuming Atkin's doesn't work for you. While I am quick to admit that it's not for everyone, I typically find that it's not the diet but the unconscious cheats causing the problem. I hope you find the hidden snags slowing you down!

I am sorry if I sounded harsh. Did not mean to for sure. I had a rough start with Atkins and needed plenty of guidance from members of this forum and I got it - so I am just trying to help. I am bit of a direct kind of a person but if I come across as rude or anything let me know.

              Good points Eric.

                Re: Out of Ketosis

im also out of ketosis, and its frustrating. im eating the exact same things as i did on the first week of induction...im not giving up...the ladies here are keeping me encouraged enought o keep going with this, but it is frustrating.

let me know if my menu needs some adjusting:

2 eggs and 2oz of cheese for breakfast

tuna salad for lunch, which includes, 2 cups of spinich, a few pieces of zuccini and some olive oil

dinner, 2 medium sized fillet of salmon and a cup of broccoli.
sometimes i indulge on cooked ground beef when i feel like eating all day lol

                any suggestions?

Not that my two cents will get you a while lot these days, but your sample menu sounds healthy in a low-fat, low-calorie kind of way. While lean meats (fish) and veggies are part of Atkins, this diet does require a certain intake of fat. I think once you convince yourself that ground beef is a mainstay rather than an indulgence, you'll likely do better.

Then again, you don't have a lot to lose (and already look fantastic) so what works for me at 230 pounds may not be as applicable for you!

                    Re: Out of Ketosis

I have a post of mine about problem with Ketosis. I was wondering, because I noticed on my Kraft Mayo, sugar is an ingredient towards the bottom of the list. Obviously a hidden carb since it isn't counted on the label. I was curious, how much do these little bits of hidden sugar affect our weightloss? How much sugar take us out of Ketosis, any amount all? A few grams? Obviously I need to read the book again more thoroughly.

Check out this thread regarding sugar in otherwise Atkin's friendly foods.
