  • Xylitol????

Is Xylitol okay to use? Just curious...

I think I should probably avoid all "Atkins Friendly Sweets" for awhile. I really need to get control and rid myself of the "sweet" monster!

Yes I think it is. Also Stevia.

I would listen to your little voice though that is telling you to avoid all sweets for awhile. Induction is great for helping us detox from our 'addictions'.

be careful with it though, even though it's a 'natural' sweetener its' still like a sugar alcohol and will cause digestive issues if you eat too much too quickly. The package i have says to start off with smaller amounts and work up gradually.

          Re: Xylitol????

          Hi Kelly,
Xylitol and Stevia are my sweetners of choice. That is when i'm not on a sweetner fast like I am now. If you feel it would help you. I have an ongoing No Sweetner Challenge at http://www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.c...challenge.html
Stevia is allowed at this challenge. Only because it is recognized in the US as a supplement/herb and not a sweetner.
This is the company that I get my Xylitol at www.smartsweet.com . The Xylitol that they make is a derivative of Birch, hardwood and is a healthy sweetner. It has so many health benifits when used.
Also this company carries quite a bit of Xylitol and Stevia products www.longlifeunlimited.com .
Remember there are different ways that companies make Xylitol. Some make it from corn. Make sure you read ingrediants from what it's made from. That will make a big difference in how your body reacts to it as Sadie and Elsie mentioned above.
The kind I use, I don't have "issues" with. But of course, everyones body is different in how it reacts to sugar alcohols.
Oh another thing, liquid stevia has 0 carbs aswell as the Smart Sweet Xylitol.
          Sincerely, Sherri

Thanks to everyone for your suggestions. I will check those 2 sites you suggested Sherri and I do believe I will join the "No Sweets Challenge." I really once and for all need to rid myself of my addiction to sweets, including, Atkins Friendly sweets. I think this will help with my "emotional" eating melt downs that I give into occasionally.

However, it is good to know that Xylitol is okay and that I can feel good about giving it to my husband and family without harming them in anyway. I haven't found a brand of Stevial I like yet, but I will keep trying. I'm not too worried about it at the moment since I intend to kick my addiction in the "Patootie!"
