Ok gals, I have entered into my first menstrual cycle since starting atkins. Is it normal to be way more hormonal and crazy? I'm sticking to the diet but I find my self being an absolute #itch, or at least felling like I could be one if I wasn't watching out for my behavior... I'm not usually like this... I started having wild mood swings today as well. I seem to be experiencing all my normal cycle issues but they are Magnified by ten! Has anyone else had this problem? Thanks

Re: PMS- For women only
To me it stands to reason that just as our bodies are becoming more sensitive to the hormone insulin, they are also becoming more sensitive to every other hormone flux and with every woman's hormones being different, our reactions follow suit. I don't have any proof to offer but it makes sense to me."Nothing in the world can take the place of persistence. Talent will not; nothing is more common than unsuccessful men with talent. Genius will not; unrewarded genius is almost a proverb. Education will not; the world is full of educated derelicts. Persistence and determination are omnipotent."

Re: PMS- For women only
i had the same problem Mommaruthie!!
it was pretty bad, i was in a terrible mood even a week b4 my period started.
i did feel that i got pretty bad this time, but i never thought it was from the diet. it coulda've been. i know i was gaining weight through out that time, i guess thats why i was moody and #itchy most of the time lol.
but other wise, i feel really good and alot calmer these days

Re: PMS- For women only
I've noticed there have been a couple of 'for women only' threads in here in the past week.
I'm not sure if all the ladies are aware, but there is a women's only forum on this board. If you cannot access it please send a PM to Lauren and ask that she grant you access.
These threads are better posted in there. And it's a great forum for female questions of all kinds!

Re: PMS- For women only
My first period on Atkins was like that - I was crazee and it came earlier than normal, but now I have less pmt, am not as bloated, not as moody, much more stable and steady - I am still looking for comfort food but its not so hectic..give it time it will settle, I believe it actually assists me that time of the month, at least I dont walk aroind looking pregnanat anymore

Re: PMS- For women only
I just finished my first period since re-starting Atkins after being away for 5 years and I noticed I was a good deal more irrational, irritable, and tired. I chalk those exaggerated feelings up to the fact that I no longer allow myself those "crutches" that I used to indulge in, e.g. apricot brandy, potato chips, Ben & Jerry's ice cream.
It used to be when I started to feel edgy during PMS/TOM, I would consume these things (in small quantities even!) and a sense of peace would settle over me. I'd feel calm and relaxed... and yes, even happy. There wasn't a lot that could break through that fat/sugar/alcohol shielding and make me angry.
THIS time around though? Complete flippin' opposite! My tongue has toothmarks on it. My fiance came to bed late and woke me up out of a sound sleep with a good night kiss (which was more of a good morning kiss) and I almost hit him!
I'm going to have to figure out something before my next period comes. Maybe I can just rent a motel room for a week.

Re: PMS- For women only
I would like to suggest, extra water and exercise prior to your period and my doctor suggested to me to reduce caffine. This has really made a difference for me.sigpicCeeMarie 267/236/180 (-31 lbs!)
