This Wednesday will be my two week mark on Atkins. When I started Atkins I weighed 314..and now (depending on what scale I stand on, lol) I'm at about 304ish (303.6)....Not bad I guess, but not as good as most ya'll....

So this Friday is my birthday, usually not a big deal...BUT this is my first birthday with out my mama (she died November 9th 2007)....and she always made me a texas sheet cake for my birthday, and I soooo bad want some cake....just a few bites.....and I want to go out for sushie because I do that every year.....BUT I'm struggling to lose weight now, so should I really put me even further behind?

    Comments please!?!?!?!

If you are committed to your weight loss and becoming a healthier person you will chose to not have cake. You have to tell yourself something important-something I tell myself whenever I have been tempted by something... "I am more important than cake, cookies, ice cream, etc.. (whatever the temptation is...) " Then ask your self, "Can the cake, cookies, ice cream, etc... take my kids to the park? can it go to their highschool graduation? can it see them get married and have grandkids?" The answer is a resounding no. Look in the mirror and tell yourself how important you are to yourself and to all others in your life! Not trying to sound preachy... but this is what works for me... good luck and Happy Birthday

That's up to you. rRght now you have to decide what is more important to you and you have to decide if you are willing to accept the responsibility 100% for the outcome---good or bad.

If a "few bites" of sheet cake or sushi is more important to you than losing your weight and getting healthy, then there's nothing anyone here can do to convince you otherwise.

Likewise, if you are willing to accept the responsibility 100% that you might fall off the diet completely with those "few bites" and/or gain weight, then there's nothing anyone here can do to convince you not to cheat.

I know that sounds mean and cold-hearted, but that's the truth. You have to make your own decisions, you have to accept full responsibility for them and you have to live with the consequences.

Re: To Cheat or not to Cheat

hey. i lost my mom almost 6 years ago. i know what it is like to want to have those familiar experiences that bring make those memories.....BUT....

if you are truly committed to your good health, (and i bet your mom would be VERY supportive of what you are doing), then find another way to celebrate your day and honor your mom

when you start to plan cheats, you are heading yourself down a path of disappointment. "just this one time" turns into trouble, at least for most of us. like the others, i don't want to sound preachy. i just know from my own experience.

in my own blunt and honest opinion, atkins works ONLY when you make it a LIFESTYLE........it becomes totally second nature.

and i might add that eating all that sugar after cleaning it all out of your system may cause you lots of tummy troubles...i know it did for me. after eating something high carb (after not having any for a while) i become terribly sick and my stomach did not forgive me

for future thought too....there are lots of really good, healthy, low carb dessert treats you can enjoy when you are a little higher up in the rungs! low carb cheesecake is to die for!

        enjoy your healthy birthday!

Re: To Cheat or not to Cheat

I think mom would be more proud if you skip the cake and continue to lose weight. Eating a slice of cake may make you happy for a day, but it'll follow with several days of despair. Weight loss may make you slightly less happy on your birthday, but the happiness continues to grow daily as you continue towards success. So basically it boils down to whether you want to be happy or sad a week after your birthday? That's a pretty easy question for me.

See....You are all awesome! And not2late, that wasn't cold at all...it is the truth. Simple. Thank you so much for all your imput. I totally agree. What would make me happy forever. Being fat doesn't make me happy...and cake would probably make me cry more than make me happy, hehe.

            Thanks all!

I agree with the other posters too but I wanted to say that I'm sorry about your mom. My mom is terminally ill and I know how incredibly heartbreaking it can be. Maybe try a low-carb dessert to "splurge" on your birthday. Have a happy one and good luck to you!

Oh hunny! I'm soo very sorry to hear about your mom. It is one of the hardest things I've ever had to go through. I wish I had some amazing advice to give to you, but there really isn't much that helps but time...and even that doesn't seem to do much. My prayers will be with you, and if you ever need to talk please let me know. My mother battled cancer for 3 years. =(...it always seemed like such an up-hill battle.

Re: To Cheat or not to Cheat

Liss and Widget, so terribly sorry about your dear mothers.

And, Liss, I can only speak for myself: "One or two bites" of cake would knock me completely off the wagon ... sugar is such a trigger! How about something like this recipe, printed here recently (I forget which awesome Atkineer contributed it ... sorry, don't want to take credit for your fab dessert!):

                  "Dom's cheesecake pudding

                  8 oz heavy whipping cream
8 oz cream cheese - softened
                  8 oz sour cream
                  1/2 cup splenda
                  1 tsp vanilla

Whip the heavy cream until stiff peaks form. Set aside
Mix the rest of the ingredients until smooth. Fold in the whipped cream.

This makes 12 servings (divide equally between 12 foil muffin cups or 12 fluted glasses) @ >3 g. carbs per serving.

Good right out of the bowl, very good chilled, and I'm testing freezing it right now...

You can add a few sliced strawberries or some blackberries or blueberries on top (add the carbs)."

I haven't tried it yet, myself, but it sounds FAB!
                  Hugs, girls!

Sorry to hear about your Moms. Mine die in '96 of bone cancer 4 years after my Dad died of colon cancer. Cancer is such a sucky disease! I do wish you the best of times you have left with your Mom, Widget. And MissLiss, treasure your memories with your Mom not the recipes or "goodies". I'm sure she is already proud of you and is cheering you on! I know I am!

                      Good luck!

Is sushi/cake going to disappear from the face of the earth if you dont eat it that day?

I just tell myself that it will still be there when i am thin and then i will have my cheat meal then when i wont want to throw my scale out the window for showing me a higher weight.
