It would be ground-up flax seeds, Izza. Eaten whole the seeds just pass through and the nutrients in them are not absorbed by the body.
I use a coffee grinder to grind mine as needed, but you can buy them ready-ground. Once ground you need to keep them in the fridge or freezer as the ground 'meal' or 'flour' will go rancid quickly.
