I've had a little stomach virus or something since over the past few days. My stomach cramps up every few minutes and I've had diarriah every time I go.

I'm in my second week of OWL- what should I do to try to get this out of my system?

So far, I've only taken the tablet form of Immodium, because it doesn't have any carbs.

My husband tells me to eat soup with crackers and drink Gatorade... but I don't want to eat illegal foods.

    What do I do?

There are low sugar versions of Gatorade and Powerade, get hubby to pick those up for you. You can sip chicken broth, but crackers are out of course. When you are ready to start eating solid food again, I would start with lightly scrambled egg. Sugar free jello might make you feel like you are at least eating something. Hope you feel better soon!

Oh my gosh! the exact same thing happened to me one week into induction! I survived on homemade turkey broth and swanson broth low sodium. I also used diet gingerale to calm my tummy. I know that aspartame is frowned upon but I think in some special circumsatnces small amounts are ok. I hope you are feeling better soon. Don't go back to "solids" to soon. Ease back in by adding turkey/chicken/whipped egg to the broth and seeing if that goes ok.

You could make flax crackers and puree cooked meat/veg to make soup!
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Jello and broth are easy for me to get my hands on, but what about the flax crackers Elizellen mentioned? How do I get flax and how do I make the crackers?

I'm still feeling bad this morning, so I hope some of these ideas get me feeling normal again.

            Very simple recipe
Mix equal volumes of ground linseed (flax in USA) and water, say 2 Tablespoons of each, and let sit to thicken up.

Then spoon on to baking sheet if oven cooking or parchment paper if microwaving and press into flat 'biscuit' (cookie in USA) shapes.

            Cook till crisp.

You can mix something like chilli or spices into it or even add grated cheese or chopped chives to flavour them but they are quite tasty just plain.

As linseed/flax is virtually all fibre they are very low in net carbs. However, using them on induction is only allowed according to the 'constipation rule', using larger quantities should really be left till the seeds/nuts rung of OWL.

I buy mine (in UK) from a health food shop, but I think in USA they are more generally available in baking sections of food stores.

                Hi Deb
                I usually microwave mine.

Here is a recipe for a large cracker made with a whole cup of ground flax that you break into smaller pieces that is oven baked which might help you work out the best oven method
Garlic Parmesan Flax Seed Crackers - Recipe for Low Carb Flax Crackers
Prep Time: 10 minutes Cook Time: 15 minutes

                Ingredients:
                • 1 cup flax seed meal
                • 1/3 cup Parmesan cheese, grated
                • 1 and 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder
                • 1/2 teaspoon salt
                • 1/2 cup water
                Method

                Heat oven to 400 F.

                1) Mix all ingredients together.

                2) Spoon onto sheet pan which is covered with a silicone mat or greased parchment paper.

                3) Cover the mixture with a piece of parchment or waxed paper. Even out the mixture to about 1/8 inch. I find a straight edge, like a ruler, works well, though you can use a rolling pin or wine bottle too. The important thing is not to let it be too thin around the edges or that part will overcook before the center firms up. So after you spread it out, go around the edges with your finger and push the thin part inwards to even it up.

                4) Bake until the center is no longer soft, about 15-18 minutes. If it starts to get more than a little brown around the edges, remove from oven. Let cool completely - it will continue to crisp up.

                5) Break into pieces.

The whole recipe is 6 grams of effective carbohydrate plus 35 grams of fiber

Sorry for bumping a sorta "old" thread, but I woke up with a nasty stomach bug this morning - I knew I couldn't have toast or crackers, so I didn't know what to do!

So glad I found this thread, I'm gonna have my boyfriend pick me up some sugar free jello & diet soda from the store, and I'm making myself some chicken broth!!
