  • Dry Skin and Chapped Lips

Three days after starting induction I started suffering from very dry skin and chapped lips. I am now on my first day of extended induction. And my skin continues to be dry. Can this be related to the diet?

I'm baffled because I've never suffered of dry skin or chapped lips ... I can't think of anything else that may be affecting me.

    PS.
    I'm drinking approximately 120 -150 oz. of water a day. So I don't think I'm dehydrated.

Wow.. I have the exact opposite thing occur. You are getting enough good oils in your diet? If you are not already, I would get some olive oil, and consider buying and using some grapeseed oil and /or coconut oil. I have practically tossed all my chapsticks.

Re: Dry Skin and Chapped Lips

Up to a week ago I was only using peanut or corn oil for cooking. However, in the last week I've been using grapeseed oil and olive oil.

I'm not taking a multi-vitamin do you think this could be the issue. I'm very confused about vitamins and don't know which one to take.

      Is centrum ok?

I use centrum and it works great for me. I chose it because it did not have iron.

        good luck!

Well Aussie .... looks like we'll have to keep lathering up lotion and using plenty of chapsticks. I guess it's a small price to pay ... after all this diet is working for me.

Re: Dry Skin and Chapped Lips

I had chapped lips for a while and discovered I was drinking too much water. You might try cutting the water just a bit. It was washing electrolytes out of my system.

Re: Dry Skin and Chapped Lips

Hrm. I'm not sure how much you weigh, but I wouldn't cut the water - you're an inch taller than me, but I've been your size before and been having more water than that. If it's an electrolyte issue, that could be balanced out by eating salt, but a lot of multivitamins contain electrolytes (like potassium and magnesium) in them.

My *guess* here is about the fat levels... I've never really suffered from chapped lips no matter what, but have horribly dry skin in the colder months... for me, eating Atkins has really helped with this.

Thank you for your input. I think I will try taking a multivitamin and see it helps.

Re: Dry Skin and Chapped Lips

hello guys. This is my 29th day on atkins diet and yesterday I've just started to feel the same thing. My lips felt really weird and it turned really red. It's really dry. I;m not sure everything was ok I take my daily multi vitamins. Did anyone find out what the cause was yet? This is really annoying. Thanks.

PS: I did research and it says it could be cold weather? Here in maryland its down to 30-40 degrees but I never had it dry before. Just wondering.

Re: Dry Skin and Chapped Lips

the thing about doing atkins is that if we do it right and are losing weight our bodies are going to go through some wonky changes... our hormone will be out of wack... I am personally losing my hair, our skin will change, lots of changes... adapt to these changes as they happen, stay the course... and when you begin to approach a healthy weight for yourself I am sure... that things will normalize... stabalize... I bought coconut oil to take for its "meabolic advantages" but since I cannot tollerate it I am using it for my skin and my hair and lips... its really light and it really works for chapped skin...
Give it a try... Blistex is great too !

                      Good luck!

Mine are dry too, but I think the cold weather is part of the problem. I eat plenty of good oils and am a religous lip gloss user.

Up to 2 weeks ago I was having a horrible time with dry skin (on my face) which I was thinking was a combo of hypothyroidism and the cold weather. Since started Atkins 2 weeks ago my skin is not as dry as it was.
