  • Tell me I'm crazy

Someone please tell me I am wrong, The first time I was on Atkins I never drank any water, I always drank diet Coke. I lost weight really quick, especially during induction, I think I lost 12 lbs during induction alone. This time I am drinking 80 ozs of water a day and no soda at all and I have been in induction for 3 weeks now and haven't lost 1 pound. Everything else I am following by the book just like before. That is the only thing that I seem to be doing different this time and this time I am not loosing any weight...Someone please tell me this is all in my head. Maybe I am not loosing because I am retaining the water.
I guess I just need a little motivation to stick with it, and assurance that this water is not harming my plan...

    Re: Tell me I'm crazy

Ugh... I don't have an answer to your questions... I just wanted to tell you you're crazy.

OK, joke aside... let's start the surgery...

Water retention first. You said you drink 80 oz. Well, I drink 200 and I never had any problems. You won't retain water just because it loves your hips and tummy. Unless you eat a lot of salt (sodium intake should stay around 1500 mg for most of us), water is 'eliminated'.

Another reason why you might retain water is our good friend, Mr. TOM (I hope you're a woman, not a man... that would be pretty embarrassing ). When TOM's around I usually stall or gain 1-2 lbs. I read about others who gain up to 5-10 lbs. But since TOM is our friend, he takes these pounds with it when it leaves... so no need to worry.

The best thing would be to post a menu. Then we can see how much salt you are eating or if there is any food that might cause you to stall. By the way, are you using Fitday?

Second, you mention a 12 lbs loss you had some time ago during induction. Our bodies change... metabolism changes, hormones get screwed up... you get the point. As you get older, it can become more difficult to lose weight. It's not a rule, but that's what usually happens. So losing 12 lbs might take you longer now than it did a few years ago.

Third, what are your stats? Age, current/goal weight, height? If you don't have a lot to lose, than the loss will go slower. As a rule of thumb, one should expect approx. 5% loss in the first two weeks of induction.

So to get more help, here's what you could do/answer:

    1. Post your stats - age, current weight, goal weight, height.
    2. Post some typical menus. What did you eat today/yesterday for example?
    3. Do you have any medical condition? Are you taking any medicines?
    3. Do you exercise?

          Re: Tell me I'm crazy

First, congratulations on your persistence and also for asking for help!

One thing you might have missed or missed mentioning: Did you take your measurements? Speaking from experience, at times some people see results there more than on the scale.

          Also, are you feeling better?

What is your exercise routine, are you getting into one? How is this going?

There's just a few questions to add to the great advise you got above.

Now go out there and have another great week! You will see results soon!

PS: By the way, as fellow New Yorker, I will not mess with you about being crazy, as far as you know....
