My nails seem to be stronger since I've been on the Atkins diet. (I've been in induction since Sept. 19th) Usually they break and tear quite frequently, but not for the last few weeks. I wonder if the extra protein/fat/etc. has strengthened them. Has anyone else noticed this?

OK, after I posted this I found other threads here that confirm it's not just me...
Makes me think I was malnourished before starting this new way of eating. But I wonder which nutrients in particular are strengthening the nails.?

One hundred percent stronger nails here. Noticed that the first time I did Atkins too. Think the protein is a factor, but maybe cutting out the sugar helps in some way we don't know about yet. My nails are gorgeous, and this is coming from a long time nail biter.Comment

Oh yeah, it sure does work wonders on my nails! I'm pretty sure it's the added protein that help strengthen and lengthen nails. It also may be just plain old healthy eating plus the constant supply of water to wash out any nasties floating around in our system.
