  • Delayed TOM.

    Hi Ladies,
i was just wondering if any of you had a problem or a delay in their TOM at the begining of Atkins?
this is my second month of atkins, and the first time i had my period last month, it was delayed 5 days. which is suppose to be normal when starting a new diet.
but this time around, i was expecting my TOM exactly one week ago today, and so far i didnt get it and have to symptoms of it either.
its worriying me, and i know forsure im not pregnant.
    any ideas??
and maybe to add to all that, i havent been losing any weight, for the past 7 weeks. i actually gained 2.4 pounds, which keep fluctuating up and down. EXTREMLY frustrating.

ok maybe i should narrow this down...
anyone thinks its a thyroid problem??
i feel big around the abdomen area, regardless of how many ab excersies i do. i drink plenty of water each day, around 3-3.5 liters.
i honestly need help, or someone who experiences similar symptoms.
i would go to the doctor, but i just went to renew my health card, and it will take 3-5 weeks to get it back.

      Re: Delayed TOM.

I've heard that period problems come from being overweight or underweight...

I noticed your goal weight is teeny tiny and you already seem very teeny tiny yourself. . . Could it be you might be heading into an under-weight range?

        thanx for you response missnikki!
i read that online as well, but i honestly dont feel nor look underweight. i still carey weight around my abdomen and hips, and im not by any means trying to be stick thin either.
i do find my body fat percentage alittle low-->(15%). but i dont think its low enough to make have delays in my paeriod...is it??

I believe 9 - 18 percent is where we start qualifying as underweight. Unlike men, of course, we are supposed to have a slightly higher body fat percentage.

          That could be your problem.

I find my periods are quite regular, perhaps a little on the heavy side when I'm on plan, but haven't been too skinny to have missed any LoL.

            Re: Delayed TOM.

Crazy periods aren't uncommon in the beginning. Usually more frequent or longer or mid-cycle periods though, not late.
They will settle back into a routine.

What I have read is that estrogen is stored in fat, so as you burn the fat, there is more estrogen in your system and your cycle gets a little nuts.

Hi! I've been doing Atkins for almost 7 weeks now - and no period at all. I'm sure I'm not pregnant. I've been getting a little concerned about it too.

yesss this is my 8'th week of atkins also. i had one period but it was only 5 days late.
so far its already 9 days late and i have no period symptoms. and i know im not pregnant either. i just hope this is normal when starting out the diet, and its got nothing to do with thyroid disfunctions :S

                  Re: Delayed TOM.

There are a lot more symptoms to thyroid dysfunctions than a late period. Are you having other symptoms as well?

My first TOM after starting Atkins I was a full week late. I had no signs of it starting either. My 2nd TOM was exactly on time (which was unusual for me anyway as I normally go late by a day or two.)

Your body is definitely changing so I wouldn't worry too much about it, however, I would certainly go see a doctor to put my mind at rest.

You're in Canada so you should still be able to see a doctor without having to pay. You are still covered under the health plan for your province, aren't you, even if you are waiting for your new card? Or was your old card expired for a while?

                    Re: Delayed TOM.

your right, i i dont feel anything eles besides my late period. actually i've never felt better, but i do have problems with losing weight...lately im only seeing the scale go up every 2 days, it scares me coz its pretty quick, and i dont understand why, since i dont cheat and only eat legal foods in proper amounts. and thats what got me thinking about having thyroid disfunctions, coz i heard it effects ur metabolic system and makes it very hard to lose weight, and i've been having that problem now for the past 7-8 weeks. besides that i feel great.
my card has been expired since Feb, and never knew about it..(oops), but i did go renew it, and i got a temporary piece of paper that i could use at the doctors so that i dont have to pay, HOWEVER, there was one peice of missing information the person forgot to write down on that paper. i couldnt see the doc. i will get it fixed today
thanx for the support ladies, i truley feel so much better already
just a quick question though....is it possible to get rid of all that extra estrogen now?
