  • Jack and Diet C

Hello! I sooooo wanted a drink last night. I usually do DRY red wine but we had none (keeping it out of the house for the diet)....but I also enjoy a Jack and Diet Coke from time to time.

I looked up the nutritional info on the Jack.....
ZERO carbs--ZERO sugar. OK--I know alcohol is NOT going to help me...but I really felt like a drink. Diet Coke (I know --I know)--also has zero carbs.

I am thinking the alchohol will CONVERT to sugar once in my body but just need to ask.....zero carbs/sugar....is it SUPER bad or just "kinda" bad??

Thanks! I enjoy a drink from time to time and just want to know what the BEST drink is (for this diet) if I MUST have one (or two ).

    Thanks

Once you have reached the 5th rung of OWL alcohol would be fine (unless your body reacts badly to it)
From the OWL chapter in DANDR

Can I drink alcohol now that 1 am in OWL?
The body bums alcohol for fuel when alcohol is available. So when it is burning alcohol, your body will not burn fat. This does not stop weight loss; it simply postpones it. Since the alcohol does not get stored as glycogen, you immediately get back into lipolysis after the alcohol is used up. But keep in mind that alcohol consumption may increase yeast-related symptoms in some people (see Chapter 25) and interfere with weight loss. If it does not slow your weight loss, an occasional glass of wine is acceptable once you are out of Induction so long as you count the carbohydrates in your daily tally. (A 31/2-ounce glass of wine contains about 4.3 grams of carbohydrate.) Spirits such as Scotch, rye, vodka and gin are acceptable, but do not mix with juice, tonic water or non-diet soda, all of which contain sugar. Seltzer, diet tonic and non-aspartame diet soda mixers are permitted. If you have added alcohol to your regimen and suddenly stop losing weight, discontinue your alcohol intake.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Rung five....long way to go I may just have one here or there but will try not to. Sometimes just hard at parties etc. Great info! I will be sure to keep them in my carb limit and watch my weight to see if I stall but really just plan on not really having a drink more than 1x a week....Thanks! Holidays will be tough. Lots of wine at dinners....etc. Hopefully I will drop enough to be motivated to keep with the diet by Thanksgiving.

      Thanks!
