I just found out that I probably have an allergy to dairy products and need to go a week without any to test. I'm starting tomorrow and have absolutely no idea about what to do for snacks now. I usually have hard cheese everyday as well as a serving of yogurt, cottage cheese or sour cream. Then there's the splash of heavy cream in my morning coffee. I think I can handle the meals, but if I don't take a few decent protein snacks to work, I'll get off track so fast. I don't relish the thought of munching on meat during the day and nuts are a staller for me. Can anyone think of anything else I can take? Thanks for any help.

Re: Dairy Allergy
Hi Chrissy,
I'm sorry to hear about your newly discovered dairy allergy, that is tough. I have been terribly allergic to dairy products since I was born. The times I have had them in the past they've either started to close my throat or I just basically get really drowsy and fall asleep. I also have a very difficult time breathing after I eat any form of dairy. It's a nasty allergy and if indeed you are allergic to dairy, you'll be better off staying away from it.
For me, I have just learned to snack on eggs made in different ways....eggs salad (finely chopped up celery, sugar free pickles [sometimes pickles or finely chopped up onions....or I just leave them out], mayo, cayene pepper, garlic powder, onion powder), hard boiled, scrambled with some chicken in it or with some spinach. Other than that, I snack on chicken throughout the day and split my veggies up. I eat about 8 smaller meals a day - under my doctor's orders (doing this is really helping in speeding up my metabolism. By also eating very small meals (like about 4 to 6 bites every 3 hours) it helps because I can snack on more veggies because my total veggies for the day are then spread out throughout a longer period of time. You could also do a spin on the egg salad thing above and use tuna...I can't because it closes my throat due to my allergy with fish but it is excellent as well. You could then wrap it up in a lettuce leaf and eat it that way.
Sorry that I don't have any other suggestions, I'm sure someone else may have more but I thought I would mention what I do incase it helps in some way.
All the very best to you!
Sarina

Re: Dairy Allergy
Thanks Sarina! I'm not sure why, but I didn't think of eggs. I eat them in the mornings and love them. Great idea!
I get the throat swelling problem too and end up with breathing difficulties. I'll be so glad to not feel like this anymore.
Thanks again!Last edited by Chrissy_1978; October 25, 2008, 01:32 PM.

Re: Dairy Allergy
Hi Chrissy,
You're most welcome! I'm glad eggs are something you really like, there are so MANY ways to use them I think you'll find them most satisfying throughout the day when needed.
By the sounds of it you're quite allergic to dairy like me, you'll feel SOOOOO much better when you're off it. You'll notice many differences I am sure including weightloss...I know I have. In the meantime drink LOTS of water and flush your system out....and avoid it like the plague!
