  • I am in a serious stall.....

Hey guys... I'm having a real dilemma. I'm in a real stall and I don't know why. I have done Atkins before and it worked fine. But now, i have been on this diet for almost a full month. I have only lost 10lbs. Okay, some might say that isn't bad. But I lost 10lbs for the first week. The following three have been the same everyday. I don't know what the problem is. I will admit, i haven't found much time to excercise. I have only made it to the gym on average 3 times a week when i would like to be going double that. But reguardless, I can't figure it out. I only drink water. At least 100 ounces a day. I'll have 3 eggs with cheese for breakfast. Lunch I will eat chicken, sometimes mixed with baby spinach and other days with mayo. For dinner I eat a steak. I'll snack on cheese, never going over 4 onces. Sometimes I squeeze some tuna fish in as well. That's basically my diet. I am boggled as to why I haven't been dropping lbs. I started at 234lbs and I am now 224, some mornings 225lbs. If anybody can give me any ideas or I would really appreciate it.

I can totaly understand. I have been on Atkins several times and some work better than others. There have been many posts saying that cheese can cause a stall. This time I have decided to just leave cheese out. The other things are be sure to have your veggies and plenty of fat. I'm sure someone with more expierence will fill you in more. keep up the good work.

Um, without knowing anything else about quantity, etc. It does look like you're eating a high protein, not high fat diet. For me, it's easier to go down with high fat. I also firmly believe in exercise.

I think that you don't officially count as "stalling" yet, not sure whether there is any difference in measurements, but I do think it might be beneficial for you to post a few days of your meals for someone to review (including portion amounts). Oh yeah, not knowing whether you're a boy or girl or height or anything like that makes it easier to determine causes. For example, if you are a male and like, 6'5", your weight wouldn't be decreasing as quickly as someone else since you'd be closer to your "goal" weight.

Hey, thanks for the responses Beekel & Lyssie. I filled out all my information with SW CW 7 GW and all that. I'm not sure why it doesn't post. I am 5'11 and male. I have a great will power. I haven't cheated once. I'll start filling out my fitday so I can share with you. But really? Cheese can stop weight loss? Because I have eaten cheese everyday and I wish that was the case because I could easily stop that. I don't eat too many veggies. Thanks for your help.

Themastermind, it could well be that you are not getting enough veggies. You are supposed to be eating at least 3 cups of salad veggies or 2 cups of salad veggies and one cup of the alternate allowed veggies daily. It may also be that you are not getting enough fat in your diet. Please be sure you are getting the proper quantities and than you may see the scale start moving. BTW have you done any measurements? because even if the scale isn't moving you could still be losing inches.

When you have set up your fitday account you can allow us to see the entries to save you typing them out.

To do this you need to click on the 'profile' tab once logged on to fitday and scroll down to the bottom of the page and click on the button called something like 'make my journal public'. You will be shown a url ending something like 'owner=yourname' which you can paste here to allow visitors.

If you post this into your signature along with your height, gender and SW/CW/GW info it will automatically appear at the end of all your posts.

To do this choose the 'Edit signature' option from the 'Quick Links' tab at the top of the page and add the info in the text box that appears then save your signature.

I don't think you're doing anything "wrong". You're just impatient. LOL! Many folks lose well the first week or two and then have a pause (Dr. A said it's not officially a stall until you've not lost pounds or inches for four weeks). Your body may just be adjusting to the difference in burning fat for energy instead of glucose. Give it time and I'll bet things pick up again for you. You're doing a good job. Just continue (and eat a few more veggies) and you'll do fine.

I eat cheese sparingly. FOr me, it causes no weight loss.

If you haven't dropped the alcohol from your menu, do so and see what happens.

Or if you are required to drink as part of your job then you need to accept that your weightlosses will be slower than someone who has the option and can choose to avoid alcohol on induction and the lower OWL rungs.

Hey, thanks Velcrocat.... I'll start adding some of those to my diet. Does the Veggies have an actual part in losing weight? I did measure myself and I am still the same.

Elizellen... Thanks for the detailed instructions. They were very helpful. Where is the signature?

Theredhead I haven't lost a pound in 3 weeks. So we will see...

Not2Late - I have only really been required to drink one night a week and I have been drinking Vodka. Flavorless Vodka.

Did anybody else have the problem with Cheese slowing down their weight loss?

                      Thanks for everybody's help.

I know for myself that if I don't eat enough veggies I tend to stall and get cravings. so I try to make sure I get my veggies. How you respond will be different from how I respond or how my hubby responds. Just be sure you get your veggies.

As I wrote in your other thread, Dr. Atkins wrote that your body will use up the alcohol you drank for energy before it will get around to using the fats, proteins and carbs you ate. So your weight loss will be delayed while your body is getting rid of the alcohol. What it does to the fats, proteins and carbs is store them---as fat.

Sommeliers are required to taste wines frequently as a part of their job. Many of them "swish and spit" to prevent getting drunk and because tasting wines involves detecting the complexity, flavors, aromas, balance, smoothness, etc. of a wine. Tasting hard liquors involves the same process, which is why some vodkas are rated better than others.
