  • Well this is it...

Next week I go to fight the battle of life in another state, I will be living in a hotel for about a week and my stress level is going to be thru the roof, I know in the past when things go bad food has always helped me, I am already planning on things to do to avoid this but I would like advice on what you guys have done living in a hotel while your world hangs in the balance? I am so sad and scared all at once

Will you have a fridge in your room? If so buying some meats, cheese, salad fixings and dressings to have on hand would make things easier. You can even boil eggs in a kettle to have them available.

If you are in OWL and at/past the nuts/seeds rung you could have a stash of unsalted almonds or similar to keep in your pocket for those times you are close to the '6 hours without eating' mark. I always have some with me so I can nibble on them if needed - sometimes I even sit in a cafe/coffee shop with my husband or friends, drinking my glass of water and snacking on almonds while others eat cake.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

I just hate living out of a suitcase so I sympathize with your dilemma. Most hotels now have gyms so you could go for a good workout or even a sauna to pass the time and relieve stress. And keep some low carb shakes on hand for meal replacements. That will keep you out of tempting restuarants for at least a few meals. Some celery sticks and cream cheese are easy to keep if you have a fridge.

It's good that you are already planning ahead because that can make all the difference between managing your eating and falling off the wagon. I'm sure everything will work out just fine and your fears and worries will be relived soon. Good luck and keep us posted. Remember, we are here for you.

Sometimes I have to go on work-related conferences/training for a few days and live at a hotel. This is what I do.

I bring a cooler. I freeze bottles of water and put them into the cooler along with very perishable items, like cooked meats, cheese, cream, etc. Most hotels provide ice. So after you drink your water bottles, you can just use the hotel ice. To make clean up easier, bring along a box of ziploz bags and put the hotel ice into them.

I bring along veggies too---buy the whole vegetable, like a whole head of lettuce, whole tomatoes, whole cucumbers, whole radishes. Cut up veggies spoil faster. The whole veggies can survive in room temperature on the dresser or a table (just set them on top of newspaper.)

I stash a hot pot thing in my car. That way I can boil water and cook eggs in it. Or I can even heat a can of chicken broth.

Don't forget to bring a can opener, eating utensils, a small knife and small cutting board.

When I arrive at the hotel, I ask around for the nearest grocery store. Then I go there and buy the other food items if I can't bring things along like fresh veggies or meat. One time I was in luck because the hotel was about 2 blocks from the "Little Italy" section of the city. So I found a nice Italian deli and was able to stock up on things like proscuitto and cheese.

In fact, you can give the hotel a call today and ask what kind of local eateries there are and if there are any grocery stores within walking distance.
