  • Are you carbo sensitive?

Are you carbo sensitive? I know I am. I feel terrible after i have a high carb meal. Tired, bloated, sleepy all together not so good. I would like to know how some of you feel so we can get a all round picture.

    What is Carb Sensitivity?
This means that when you become carbohydrate sensitive, your body can no longer burn fat effectively, and those moderate to low-glycemic and complex carbohydrates get stored as fat.
Here are some signs that might indicate you are carb sensitive:
    –You crave carbohydrates
–You are overweight or obese and are struggling to lose weight
–You’re a woman and over forty
–You suffer from chronic or bouts of depression and compulsive overeating –You have been over-stressed for some time
–You are hormonally challenged and under a doctor’s care
–You react negatively to eating sugar, i.e., you become tired, groggy, and your mental response becomes sluggish
–You reach for carbohydrates over protein most or all of the time
–Your diet doesn’t consist mostly of whole foods, especially low to moderate glycemic foods

I am carbo sensitive and I don't meet a few of those requirements listed (I'm only 26, I'm not obese and my BMI is normal), but since starting this WOE many of those symptoms you listed above have disappeared. I feel like I have control over food and I'm always satisfied, never hungry. But I do know that I feel tired, groggy, and have bad stomach cramps after I eat carbs.

Carbs are just evil. Good to see that the atkins lifestyle agrees with you also. Another thing try not to base you goals on BMI or weight as these are not good monitors as bone density, muscle mass take a lot into account. You should use body fat scales as this is a much better way to monitor fat loss. For example a body builder may be 5ft 10in and a BMI of over 40 but a Body fat percentage of 5%, according to the scales he is obese and over weight but in reality he is lean, fit and healthy

Bloating and faitgue can also be a sign of a food sensitivity. For example, gluten allergy or celiac disease occurs in about 1 and 300 people in the US. Many people are undiagnosed. So if you eat gluten along with that high carb meal and you are gluten sensitive, the bloating and fatigue might be due to the gluten, not the number of carbs.

Also gluten sensitivity should not be confused with wheat allergies as the two conditions are different. If you are gluten sensitive the symptoms are generally fatigue, bloating, Steatorrhe, malnutrition. diarrhea, lactose intolerance and food allergies. While wheat allergies results in symptoms of asthma and eczema.
