  • Atkins support group in the UK

    Hi,

I would like a bunch of us who actually reside here in the uk to actually form a support group. Where we can exchange stories, recipes and encourage each other. Also i think it wouls help every to see that they are not alone and that we are all their to help one another.

Hi Ahsan! Whereabouts in UK are you? I am in Bournemouth.

We have many UK members posting on ADBB so I am sure others will pop in and say Hi to you soon.

How are you doing on Atkins? Are you still on induction or have you started the OWL phase?
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

Check out our Low Carb Recipes website and add to it!!

I am in london during the week and in peterborough on weekends. I am doing an extended induction as I feel it is easier to stay on the diet when there are stricty rules in place. This way i would not stray off the diet as i have done in the past.

You are right - Induction is much more straightforward to follow than OWL. However many people here seem to end up seeing their losses slow and eventually stop after long periods on induction, which changes once they start OWL.

Also you do need to move on before you reach goal weight or you might not be able to keep the weight off once you decide not to eat induction-style. Most diets can work if you follow the rules, but when you stop dieting it can be easy to pile the pounds back on if you have not learned to choose foods that keep the weight off!

Dr Atkins devised a good structured method of gradually adding foods back in till we are eating most foods except white flour/rice etc and sugar, so do make sure you follow through for the whole of the Atkins way of eating, not just use the initial phase.

I have been on it for 5 weeks now. This is the second time round. The last time I went on it was in 2002 and i lost 4 stone. I did not gain all back but some, so i decided it was time to do atkins again before it gets all out of control.

I'm more than happy to have a UK group. I think there is already a thread under International (and then UK) that we could all use?

Yes - or start a new thread in that forum and ask me to make it a sticky for the moment to keep it more visible.
