  • Smoking Rub (BBQ)

Hi all, I'm new to the forum and the Atkins diet -- just started a week ago.

I love BBQ -- smoking ribs, pork, salmon, etc.

Question is, normally I use a rub on the ribs and pork before smoking: Seasoning salt, garlic powder, white pepper, onion powder, paprika, cayenne, and last -- Brown sugar.

Obviously I need to replace the brown sugar with splenda here, correct? Are all of the other ingredients Atkins Phase 1 friendly?

Any other suggestions for making an Atkins friendly rub for BBQ smoking?

Great forum, thanks for the help!

the one item in your list I would be concerned about would be the seasoning salt. So I would suggest that you check the ingredients list. Otherwise it looks like a good mix. Remember that depending on how much of the spices/seasonings you use there are carbs to be counted. Have you tried liquid smoke?

Thanks for the response, Velcrocat. I'll be sure to check the ingredients closely.

Liquid smoke (for me) is not something I would consider -- I'm really into and love my BBQ and good-ol fashioned true smoking is the only way to go to make "slap-yo mamma" good BBQ!
