  • Atkins for women

    Hi All,

I'm a new adherent of the Atkins diet; I started 3 days ago because my Doctor thought it would be a good idea. My wife started with me also. She went to her doctor today and asked about the Atkins Diet. Her doctor said that the Adkins was a good diet for men, but not so good for women. The doctor could not give a clear reason why, except that it might cause an increase in Clorestrol.

What do all of you know the Atkins diet affecting women's health?

    Re: Atkins for women

It does affect women's health: It improves greatly.

Maybe your wife's doctor is worries about his job if she gets too healthy on him. (Just kidding with that one)

Men tend to have a bit of an advantage on Atkins because they lose faster than we women do. Has to do with that male metabolism. But with a bit of patience we can catch up.

      Hi, De

My doctor is the one who turned me onto Atkins, and I'm a woman. I've never been in better health.

Maybe the doctor isn't well informed and thats why he really couldn't give a clear reason not to do it- Cholesteral is an answer any amatuer might give- sorry didn't mean to sound rude

          Re: Atkins for women

I lose a lot more slowly on Atkins than my husband does. And I follow the plan more religiously than he does.

But, compared to other diet plans, where I always felt like I was starving, Atkins definitely has some benefits. I don't feel deprived because I'm full. Once I started enjoying my chicken wings and bacon and other fatty foods, it was really easy to bypass the candy. I used to live for candy. Now, I can carry 15 bags of Halloween candy in my trunk and forget about them....because they are not calling my name anymore.

Sounds to me like a misinformed doctor. Do you both go to the same one?

Because of the higher thoughts of cholestorol related to breast cancer maybe? I've read a few things on that recently. But honestly, Atkins has saved my life in more ways than I can count. I've lost weight and I feel healthy

Sounds like a foggy, halfhearted stab at a theory to me.

                    Hi,

                    Thank you for all your replies;

My Wife's doctor is female; my doctor is male.

I have lost 7 pounds in less than a week, so I am delighted. I do realize that this rapid weight loss won't continue, but that's ok. When I reach a plateau, I'll come here and ask what to do.

                    Thank you all again!

                    De
