I am going on a cruise at the end of this month and I know I will end up drinking and I want to do it the smartest way possible. I have read on previous threads the most common suggetsion is rum or vodka with diet soda. The thing is on a cruise they most always have diet coke which has aspartame which is not allowed. Does anyone one have better alternative? I guess I could just do shots but I prefer my alchol in a drink.

Re: Need advice on Alcohol Drink
you could always add plain water. When I was a hard drinker I had a Scottish boyfriend who always drank whisky with water. You could also try adding sparkling unsweetened or splenda-sweetened water to something like vodka. If you could get some of the liquid splenda that you on the other side of the pond can buy (not that I am moaning much about not being able to get them to sell it to us
) you could sweeten it to taste.
I suppose you wont have time to climb the OWL ladder to have alcohol as a 'legal' choice rather than as a 'cheat'? If you could even get to say the nuts rung it would expand your choices immensely and make it easier to stay on-plan for your eating at least.Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!

When I drink, I have vodka with tonic. The light tonic I buy has no carbs.~Kathy~

Re: Need advice on Alcohol Drink
You could also try a Lemon Drop (equal parts vodka & lemon juice, & a sugar cube for some recipes) - making the obvious modifications, of course. If martinis aren't quite your thing, you can also butch it up by ordering it as a shot. Have fun on your cruise.
It's so easy to follow low-carb on them, promise!

Re: Need advice on Alcohol Drink
If they have diet tonic then go for gin and tonics.
I like Campari and soda water before dinner. Or a Manhattan.
I don't know if triple sec has sugar or not, but a good margarita made with tequila, triple sec and lime is terrific---just make sure they don't use sour mix.

Re: Need advice on Alcohol Drink
Hey Tampaman, last summer I bought "Baja Bob's Sugar Free Margarita Mix Singles - Original Lime". It's a box of 16 little packets - they kind of look like sugar packets. They're made with Splenda but also taste like lime. The box says 0 carbs, 0 calories. When I had them I would order a vodka and club soda and then dump a packet in to sweeten it up. The box suggests mixing it with tequila and water. I liked them and thought they were festive.
Disclaimers:
They do taste like Splenda though.
And they probably are a bit of a frankenfood.
And I haven't had one since way before my induction started so I don't know what they will do with stalling.
Hope that helps!Stats: 5'4" | HW: 218.5 | CW: 175 | GW: 170

Re: Need advice on Alcohol Drink
I've read that wine is actually better than Atkins originally thought and has no net carbs (since the sugar turns to alcohol carbs). Here is an article about it: Atkins and Wine Changes Over Yearsage: 26
