  • New Veggie Tryout: Chayote...

Tonight was my first time having Chayote. I sauteed it in a pan and then added cream and chives. It tasted like the inside of an onion ring.

I'm not sure how to pronounce it. I'm not sure if I was supposed to peel it first. But, for someone who hates to try new things, I was brave. And it was good.

Are there any other good ways to eat Chayote?

Saute it in butter and add cinnamon & AS for an imitation apple pie filling. Depending on what step you're on, add a flax or nut topping as in apple betty.

It is a good addition to soup. I made 'no tortilla' soup with the squash, diced tomatoes, chicken, onions, garlic and canned chilies.

        Prounouced 'Chay-oh-tee'

I love it raw, sliced (peeled and rinsed), with lemon juice and splenda and cinnamon on it.
