  • yogurt question & smoothie recipes?

Ok, I know we're allowed to have yogurt as part of rung 2. I know it should be whole milk yogurt. I was looking in the supermarket today and could only find some that had about 25g carbs in it. Even if I halved the serving, It wouldn't be anywhere near the 5g we're supposed to start out with. So, how do I get to have yogurt? (Not that I used to eat much anyways, but I thought eventually, I might want it, so I'd better add it in.) Also, does anyone have a good smoothie recipe? Right now, I'm on the nut rung. Am I allowed to have protein powder yet? I don't have a clue as to which rung that would be on. Thanks for any help!

It must have been sweetened, unsweetened whole yogurt does not have nearly that amount of carbs in it

It should have about 8g's of carbs per 3/4 of a cup. The yogurt I buy has 5g's per half cup.

The international brand 'FAGE' strained yogurt is available around the world.
Here is a US website with a form where you should be able to ask them which shops in your area sells it.

I'm not sure where you are located, but here, unsweentened yogurts is labelled as 'plain' yogurt..and is sold at all grocery stores, we have at least 4 different brands and fat %'s from 0 to 35%. If you are in the US I would imagine you will have several available normally you have more brands than us.

Also, it's important to check the ingredients list, the best yogurts are going to be at least 2% mf and only contain milk ingredients, with no fillers like gelatin or starches.

I've always eaten the greek yogurt - both brands (Fage as mentioned above is one) I've seen have about 7g carbs per cup.

As for a smoothie recipe, I think if you throw some yogurt, some frozen berries, and a little sweetener in a food processor, and play around with amounts, you can end up with something acceptable... if I remember correctly, I usually added a little silken tofu to mine..
