  • How to not cheat

Well, I can tell you that in 3 weeks, I have not cheated.
And what's more, I do not want to cheat.
    Not once.

    How?

    Easy.

I thought I needed glasses. It was also time for my yearly physical.
Sure, I had gained some weight. Big deal.

The I got a call. My blood sugar was 503. My eye sight was bad from the sugar. My A1C level was over 10.

I had a choice. I could keep eating and craving junk, or get serious, take control, and do something about it.

Many of you are lucky. You didn't have this happen. At least not yet.

Next time you want to eat cake or chocolate, think about when you get a bit older and you have to start popping pills or shooting insulin.

How good does that cake taste now?

This is a scary but true story. Good news is, my eyesight is back. My sugar is under control and thru having the fear of being majorly ill for the rest of my life, I can honestly say I am not tempted by the stuff I used to eat.

Please take care of yourselves before you have to start popping pills.

Love yourselves now before this happens to you!!

    Re: How to not cheat

Are you asking how you are getting by without cheating?

I would say it is because on Atkins you are able to eat. You evidently like meat! and if you like meat and veggies, Atkins is pretty easy. Your appetite is naturally suppressed once in ketosis, making it even easier, since you aren't driven mad by hunger and cravings. I don't cheat either, like you, I have little reason too. I can always go eat a chicken leg, fry some bacon, or whip some cream if I need something.

Like they say, 'it's a good thing.'

Good for you!! And the "Future" you too!!

For me it was the old saying"

"Failing to plan is planning to fail"

        I write out everything:
from my weekly breakfast, lunch and dinner menu and shopping list
to my exercise routine (DR A hoped for us to burn at least 1000 cal's a week) and suppliment dose's

I cook and store on Sunday and have plenty of recipe's to avoid boredom with the food choice's
and a well stocked fridge and cupboard help too

stock the house with approved foods

          get rid of junk

          take snacks with you

and then choose not to stuff your face.

I had great success before on this WOE and then got sloppy and lazy and now I am diabetic. I'm not blaming anyone but me.

So, hopefully someone will read this and decide to really focus on their eating. Someone else will read my post and then feel insulted or think that I am insensitive.
          Oh well...

I say, good for you. Glad to hear the difference it is making! Yes.. when I first read the message, it ended with 'How?'

That was a high sugar, you weren't far from coma territory. My sister was diabetic, I know. You were lucky to get scheduled for that physical!

              Keep up the good work!

                Hey Kevin,

Kudos to you!! My numbers were in the 350s and a bit higher (I'd gone off my meds for awhile to see how bad it was. Don't try this at home!

Anyway, with Atkins, within 3 days of induction, my non-medicated body was throwing blood sugar numbers lower than 100 for fasting and lower than 120 after meals.

As you said, I have no one to blame for my diabetes but myself.

Good luck to you and to all of us!

                Congrats on the 30lbs lost!
