  • A question about portion sizes and recipes

    Hi Everybody,

I am starting the induction phase of Atkins in January, after my c-section on December 22. I am trying to get everything prepared now, but I am having a problem. When I look at sample menu recipies everything is in huge portions, but it doesn't have a breakdown of how much I should eat at a sitting. For example, I went to atkinscenter.com and previewed the sample menu, and one of the breakfast recipes called for 8 eggs. I am pretty sure I am not suppose to eat all those eggs at once, if fact I could not eat 8 eggs at once, but there is no breakdown of how much to eat, or what to do with the rest, because there is a new recipe for the second day. I am a bit confused. I know the the Dr. Atkins book the sample was 2 scrambled eggs and 2 turkey sausages, which I can do. Does this make sense to anyone or am I just stuck in pregnancy brain fog?? Thanks for all the help and suggestions, anything and everything is welcome. Hope you all are doing well and having a great Veteran's Day.

Re: A question about portion sizes and recipes

Atkins is not about portions as such. The rules are to limit the carbs but to eat liberally from fat and proteins in induction. That means eat regular meals, eat at least every sixth waking hour, and have fat/protein snacks in between if needed. You eat till you feel full but you do not stuff yourself. Have you read DANDR yet? The rules of induction starts on page 122.
I know what you mean though. Other diets are all about reduction and measuring and stuff so it is abit strange to get used to a diet that tells you eat.

If you look at the nutrition info for that recipe you can see it is for 4 servings, so one quarter of the recipe is what they suggest you eat at one time.
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?
Take a look at the thread from the latest Veggie Challenge to see how others manage it!
