Re: Cholesteral is through the roof-what happened?

I'm thinking that if the menopause causes women's cholesterol to rise, then maybe a hysterectomy could have a similar effect. Different hormone levels etc...
Just thinking aloud here (ok...on screen )
I'd certainly look into the medication side effects too.

You could also look at the cholesterol/ BP forum. Lots of info to be had there.

Thanks, I will check there too--I am sure it is something to do with the surgical menopause and the hormones. I have not met anyone whose cholesterol has jumped like this from living low carb

        4. Increased plasma HDL and HDL2 cholesterol subfraction concentrations, reduced LDL cholesterol concentration, increased triglyceride levels.

It's worth looking into. The site also stated something about decreased white blood cells as well but I'll let you check it out. Sometimes the side effect and warning list can seem scary so just remember that they have to list EVERY possible side effect or interaction. That doesn't mean that you will have side effects or even that Enjuvia is causing this recent change. I would also suggest redoing the test. I myself have had errors in my blood work more than once.
Bottom line: Talk to your doc.
Wow...good to know, thanks for the info. I am amazed by this as I was told that taking a synthetic Estrogen can help prevent heart disease. Now I am really confused.

Re: Cholesterol is through the roof-what happened?

I'm back.. because my doc was so worried about my 216 cholesterol... I decided to 'eat healthier'.. and I ate all the way back from the 130's to 188... AGAIN!

I've since lost back to 150... again.. with about 15 to go to get where I STARTED from.. it's so frustrating.. I was never over 125 in my life until the 90's.. when Daddy got cancer and we stopped running...

but in the meantime.. she put me on tricor... and in 12 weeks.. of eating 'right'.. my cholesterol went from 216 to 248...

now.. I'm doing this again... and my check in october was 203...

I do try to take niacin.. and fish caps.. whenever i can stomach them.. lol...

but it was my triglycerides that were really high.. like 270 or something... that's the thing she was most worried about...

I don't care right now.. I'm doing this.. and like they said.. going to TRY for more fish and stuff.. but just now.. as I was opening the little pouch of pink salmon which I can't STAND... I noticed that it has 30 mg cholesterol.. and that's more than BUTTERMILK!

I am beginning to hate food...

          maybe I'll eventually become anorexic

JUST KIDDING ABOUT THE ANOREXIC PART>>.. and certainly don't mean to make light of eating disorders.. (I have a sister who I fear will die in her 50's because she is so unhealthy... and skinny)

Re: Cholesterol is through the roof-what happened?

Ah, don't worry about the diet jokes--I am totally frustrated too. Except for still feeling a bit tired from my surgery last month, I have never felt better in my life. I don't understand the cholesterol thing, but after someone posted the info on the HRT's, I called my doctor. He said that if this one causes mine to rise, then they all will. So, I have resumed my red yeast rice with niacin, fish oil capsules and whatever the heck else i can find to try to bring it down. I am drinking so much green tea that my eyes are turning green--hopefully all this will make me not have to take those darn statins when i see my doc next month.
