  • Low Carb Slim-fast

    Has anyone tried it? Is it legal on this plan? I think it only has 2 net carbs per container.
    Started Again: 9-13-09
    SW - 224
    GW - 160

    1st Goal - 200 lbs met goal 10-10-2009
    2nd Goal - 190 lbs met goal 12-5-2009
    3rd Goal - 180 lbs
    4th Goal - 170 lbs
    Last Goal - 160 lbs

    umm why would you want to drink lowcarb slimfast? eventhough it only has 2 net carbs I bet there is quite a bit of artificial sweetener in it. Plus I can only imagine how awful it tastes. I personally would not drink that on or off atkins...

      I don't think they are legal on induction because they are not on the accepted foods list but they would be allowed on the other phases as something to eat if you didn't have access to legal foods. I keep a couple of them in the fridge but only drink one on days when my calorie count is low at the end of the day, just to keep from going into starvation mode. Also, I'm on pre-maintenence, so they are legal for me.

        I have never seen the "slim fast" low carb drink. I like the Strawberry Atkins one though if it's really cold.
        I don't have them often but I did have some during induction and didn't seem to have a problem. I want to try chocolate next. ( I think Santa might put some in my stocking! )

          Looking at the list of ingredients the stuff has milk solids in it so it would not be good till second rung on OWL. Once you are on that rung you can make your own drinks with whey proteins. Probably a lot cheaper.

          Here is the ingredient list for the chocolate one
          Ingredients:

          Water, Calcium Caseinate, Milk Protein Concentrate, Canola Oil, Cocoa (Processed with Alkali), Potassium Phosphate, Mono and Diglycerides, Cellulose Gel, Glycerine, Maltodextrin, Cellulose Gum, Salt, Soybean Lecithin, Guar Gum, Sucralose (A Nonnutritive Sweetener), Artificial Flavor, Carrageenan, Sodium Citrate and Citric Acid. Vitamins and Minerals: Magnesium Phosphate, Sodium Ascorbate, Calcium Phosphate, Vitamin E Acetate, Zinc Gluconate, Ferric Orthophosphate, Niacinamide, Calcium Pantothenate, Manganese Sulfate, Vitamin A Palmitate, Pyridoxine Hydrochloride, Riboflavin, Thiamin Mononitrate, Folic Acid, Chromium Chloride, Biotin, Sodium Molybdate, Potassium Iodide, Phylloquinone (Vitamin K1), Sodium Selenite, Cyanocobalamin (Vitamin B12) and Cholecalciferol (Vitamin D3).

            If there is ever any question as to whether a food, commercial low-carb product, or recipe ingredient is permitted on Induction, you can never go wrong by checking the finite list of allowable foods.

              I personally use the ready to drink Pure Protein Shakes from WorldWide. It has 2 grams of carbs, 35 grams of protein, and uses Sucralose instead of Aspertame. They are a little pricey ($1.85 each) but really work for me on the go or after a workout. I hope this helps. Good luck and Happy Thanksgiving.

                Do you add some fat to this to make your ratios closer to what we aim at on Atkins?

                  Elizellen- I absolutely incorporate some fat with these shakes. I usually have some cheese cubes and hard boiled eggs when I am on the go or after a workout. Thanks for looking out! Happy Thanksgiving!
