  • Alcohol...again!

I am really struggling with not drinking. I am on extended induction but I'm still having a couple of vodkas with diet soda about twice a week (0 carbs-right)? My friends (and husband) all enjoy a few cocktails sitting in the hot tub or just socializing. Its hard to be the only one sober!

Every time I drink I gain! The 5 lbs I lost last week is back after the weekend. I'm not changing my eating at all (cravings, etc.. while drinking). I guess I just cannot drink and do Atkins.

    Anyone else have this problem?

I don't know how you feel because I don't drink but I do wish you luck. We all have our "thing" that's hard to let go of. I haven't had a bowl of cereal now since August. I NEVER thought I could do that!!!!!

I'll be pulling for ya. But try to remember, the drink isn't nearly as good as how you will look in that hot tub a few months from now!

I know I'm going to be bashed for this, but I still go out - no more than once a week anymore, and no more than 3 drinks of vodka with club soda. I also do some sort of exercise the day after. I think it's easier to go at least a week without - cravings go away, and stuffs.

If you're mixing vodka with diet soda, you're having your body burn off the alcohol first, then you have to work on the diet soda situation (aspartame typically) which can cause stalls.

      Just an opinion.

I am not a big drinker but I do enjoy good wine. So having that is a nice alternative if you want to drink but are having issues with stalling I would imagine. Just try to keep the intake low.

Lyssie-thank you for the diet soda tip as well as how you handle going out! I appreciate a different point of view.

Gonnagetthin-thanks I'll try a glass of wine when I lose more weight. I'm going to try going a couple of weeks with no alcohol at all.

The one fact that kept me alcohol-free during my major losing period was that the body will burn the alcohol before any of the food you eat, so not only delaying any potential losses but maybe resulting in storing extra fat instead of burning it up!!

It was a good deterrent for me thinking 'Do I want to keep losing weight or do I want this drink?'
Wondering how to get 'most' of your net carbs from your induction veggies?

Quoted for truth - I follow the same tactic!

I have had a drink (vodka, diet coke & lime juice) on Atkins, but it just wasn't that worth it compared to keeping going on my goals, so I just don't drink now.

                I will later, eventually.

Here's the kicker - I'm a beer drinker. I won't be able to have any beer - much less decent beer - for months and months. It's tough, actually, especially during NFL football season, but I have left my special football beers in a cold dark place for future enjoyment at a much later date!

                  Re: Alcohol...again!

I've been struggling with this exact issue for weeks, I get on track and alcohol ruins me...every weekend. Even just a little. It just seems to throw my body into a 4 day zone where the weight piles on, water is retained and motivation is somewhat detered. I am going to vow to myself not to drink this weekend. When I don't drink I feel like I am making progress. I almost am beginning to feel that a drink of alcohol is a treaturous as a candy bar? I am also having a hard time with this because my husband and all my girlfriends drink every weekend, and like you said I find it very hard to not drink when surrounded by it.
