  • Artificial sweeteners

Hi there. I was wondering if you know if we can use Sweet Simplicity sweetener. It has 6 carbs, but 5 are sugar alcohol with <1 gram carb per serving. I haven't used any artificial sweeteners at all for 8 weeks and don't want to use Splenda or aspartame. I don't like the taste of Stevia though I like that it is natural. Sweet Simplicity is made from the sugar of grapes. Here is a link to the site in case you need more info. I don't plan on using it hardly at all, but it might be nice to add to my pumpkin hot cereal just a little. I only eat natural foods. Thanks.

    Hello Bree,
If you're going to use Sweet Simplicity and it's made from grape fructose. Just make sure you're in Rung 7 Fruits other than berries and melons.
I use Xlylitol (0 Net Carbs) a derivitive of Birch hard wood. It's called Smart Sweet. You can check it out at www.globalsweets.com or go to www.longlifeunlimited.com that also sells global sweet products.
I don't use Splenda either or any chemicle based sweetners.
I found this sweetner and love it. It also has other health benifits by using it. You'll find all the info on it at those web sites.
I also have a No Sweet Challenge here with great information regarding sweetners if you are interested in looking at the information there. You can find it at http:www.atkinsdietbulletinboard.com/forums/challenges/56616-2008-how-long-can-you-go-no-sweet-challenge.html.
Information regarding sweetners beginning with this post #15.
Wishing you the best of health and lite.

Thanks. I thought it would be similar to Xylitol. I read that both have the same impact on blood sugar (like no effect), but that erythritol is way less likely to cause bloating and digestive issues because it isn't absorbed as well. I'm still on induction. I thought if Xylitol was fine, this would be too since it's sugar alcohols. Bummer. Guess I'll have to see if Xylitol upsets my stomach.

Another thing to consider is that the Sweet Simplicity sweetener is not all artificial - that bit of fructose it has in it is sugar.

True. Maybe that's where I am off. The erythritol is probably totally fine, but the fructose is the problem. Oh well. I just was trying to be as natural as possible. No biggie. Thanks.

I found some erythritol at Whole Foods. They didn't have Xylitol. I think I'm good now. Thanks.

              Re: Artificial sweeteners

using xylitol and stevia together makes for the best sweet, imo. I tried erythritol and stevia, but it just didn't taste as good! when I make peanut butter cookies with xylitol, they almost taste like there's a bit of honey in them.

the only time i have artificial sweetner is when I'm dying for a hazelnut latte (which I always get half-sweet) or if I MUST have gum. the idea of eating a ton of chemical sweetner just kind of gives me the creeps.
