  • Questions about pork rinds

I bought a bag of pork rinds but I am hesitant to eat them. I see the level of sodium and I think that I may blow up like a puffer fish. I am sure that this has been asked and answered a million times. Could you fine folks share your experience with pork rinds? I would like to hear both positive and negative if you could. I am on Extended induction with about 80 more pounds to lose. I am looking forward to the feedback and Thanks Again!

    Re: Questions about pork rinds

when I first started this woe. I used porkrinds to help me get through my first tom on atkins and also to help alleviate crunchy salty carb products such as chips and crackers. I always bought the hot and spicy kind and dipped them in sour cream. I would drink extra water when I ate them. I did reatin some water on the days that I ate them. I have been on this woe for three months now and I no longer eat them... I no longer crave salty crunchy stuff. When I want crunch I eat celery or a handful of nuts and occasiounally two bites of an apple. (watch out for the apple if you are on induction) they are allowed but remember they are not a food group. Used sparingly they can help get over the cravings...

Although they are fine and have no carbs. The sodium is really really high. Unless you're gonna eat small amounts, I wouldn't recommend it in my opinion. Plus I felt weird eating them so I stopped. Like my stomach wasn't for it at all.

I don't eat them as a snack. I run them through a food processor, mix in some pepper, garlic powder, oregano, and use them to "bread" chicken and pork chops. Never had a problem with them.

          Re: Questions about pork rinds

I eat them once in awhile. (Important to check the carb count on them because some of the flavoured ones have added carbs)
I like them for a salty snack. Or I use them as breading like gbu. (The heroin wings are really good) Sometimes I use them like nachos. Add some cheddar and salsa on top and pop into the microwave. Cannot say they give me any issues. I only eat a few at the time. But yes they are pretty loaded with salt.

QBU- You are a genius! I have been looking for something to do different with chicken. To me they are a little dry to snack on by themselves. I appreciate the feedback. Thanks for the ideas and please keep them coming!

Bringy- I feel the same way about cheese. I only use a handful a day. I just want to be sure that I am not taking a step back by incorporating these pork rinds into the rotation. I could go for broke and melt cheese over pork rinds! (gasp.... heart exploding!)

                Re: Questions about pork rinds

I like eating pork rinds, but I only eat the plain ones now, they are the only ones that don't have added sugar in the ingredients.
I use them to make chicken strips as well. I just crunch them up in the bag they come in, I whisk an egg really well dip it in the egg and then coat it in the pork rinds. and deep fry. My husband really likes them also, and he is not a bog pork rind fan.

Plus if you are craving something sweet. you can drizzle melted butter over them and combine a splenda package and cinnamon together, Make a Cinnamon and sugar snack.

Does it matter how many grams you eat of this? i always miss something to snack on so love pork rinds but i know its bad for you. How many grams would be safe to get away with while on induction?
