  • I Can't Believe It's Not Butter during Induction?

I know this has been brought up here before, but Does anyone see any reason why ICBINB, Olivio or Smart Balance wouldn't be allowed during induction? They have zero carbs. No trans-fats, (I know there'e a trace amount, but not enough to count in a single serving). They are mostly oil based.
I know many of you consider them franken-foods, but I really do prefer them over butter. I wouldn't consider them margarine by definition because margarine has a lot of trans-fat, and that's why Atkin's doesn't allow it.

Dr. Atkins said to avoid margarine and vegetable shortening (like Crisco) due to the trans fats (AKA hydrogenated oil).

Fat labeling in the US is strict and they are required to list the saturated fat and unsaturated fat content in the product. HOWEVER, trans fat labelling has some wiggle room: if a product contains less than 1/2 gram of it, a manufacturer can still legally call the product "trans fat free."

Read the ingredients to see what kind of emulsifyer is used---afterall unsaturated vegetable oils seldom are solid or semi-solid in room temperature.

We all have our preferences and alot of that is due to what we have been exposed to during the years. Personally, I like unsalted butter because it has a purer dairy flavor than the salted variety.

Give butter a chance, it really can enhance the flavor of many dishes when you cook with it.

No need to cut back on fat on Atkins - much less Induction! I'd enjoy the butter.

The fat is about the same as butter. I just prefer the taste over real butter.

Eat real food. Give butter a chance, believe me you will come to love it. That other fake stuff, is just that, fake.
Thats other stuff may claim whatever they want on the label, but its still processed food, and processed food is not good for us.

              Excellent point.

On a 10-hour flight a few weeks ago, I was eating turkey breast/Swiss rollups that I'd packed. I didn't have any mayo available & used butter instead. It was actually good.

Try the unsalted butter. Salted butter might have an off-flavor because they salt it to preserve it so it has a longer shelf life.

Have you looked at some of the ingredients in the "Atkins" products? The shakes or the bars? I understand your point about the butter being a natural food and the better choice for the diet. I just want to know if ICBINB would cause a problem with Induction. Based on the ingrediants, it doesn't seem likely to stall me or pull me out of kesosis.

The Atkins bars and Shakes were not developed by Dr. Atkins. They came along after. Anyone who is successful on this board will tell you they are bad news.

I ate one Advantage bar almost every day and still managed to lose 130 pounds. I don't think everyone reacts the same to them. Same thing with sugar alcohol.

Those bars and shakes work for some, but not everyone. Its great that they worked for you because I know they can be convenient. But as a rule it is best to avoid them.

I agree. They might not even work for me any more. I haven't had any since I've got back on Atkins. My weight isn't falling off like it did back when I did it a few years ago. My metabolsism is a bit more stubborn now.
