  • I feel like a failure

ugh, a few days ago I was posting about how excited I was that i was in ketosis and doing things right.

But one week into induction and no weight loss to speak of I had a weak moment.

It started out with one cookie. then crackers with cheese, then 2 bowls of ice cream!

Full on binge. like always. Anyone else have binge issues?

I keep telling myself "a year from now youll wish you started today"

I guess tomorrows a new day. And I can try again.

    *cry*

Re: I feel like a failure

Tomorrow is a new day, I can't contradict you on that :P, but I think it's a better idea if you go back on track right now. The faster you go back, the faster you'll be in ketosis, the faster you'll start burning fat again. Plus, why start only tomorrow? To give yourself another whole binging day? Starting now will only make it half bad.

Yes, I do have binging issues when I eat sweets (though I must admit I had also binged on ratatouille once :P... pathetic, huh?!). I don't remember binging before Atkins. I guess it has something to do with our bodies not being used with huge sugar quantities anymore.

You were saying in one post that you're drinking sodas and coffee... and that you will give up cheese. Personally, I would advise you to give up soda/coffee and see if your weight changes. Only if it doesn't, then try giving up cheese. It's much easier (and healthier) to stop drinking sodas than to stop eating "yummy European cheese". For me, sodas are a big staller, no matter how far or close I am to the goal, how many carbs or calories I eat or how much I exercise.

How many calories are you eating? They don't seem an awful lot from what you've posted. Make sure you're eating enough, otherwise your body will think famine is coming and your weight loss will stall.

Watch out for sodium as well. Hamburger patties have a lot. Some brands also add sugar! To decrease your sodium intake, you can also switch high sodium cheeses like gouda, tilsit, etc. (~150-200 mg per oz) with emmentaler (~50 mg per oz).

Oh, and you're not a failure as long as you learn from your mistake and keep working towards your goal.

And to answer your question from the other post...
how much protein is too much?
During induction you should aim for 65% fat, 5% carbs, 30% protein. As you go up the rungs, the protein stays the same, but the carbs increase while the fat decreases. You should really use Fitday. It's very difficult to track your food otherwise. For most of us, eating only legal foods is not enough unless we are careful with other things like percentages and calories.

      Also, are you exercising?

You fell off the horse, now get back on. Do not waste time beating yourself up. You are human and what you did was not uncommon. Move on and this episode of weakness will just be a little blip that you will forget about and you will be back to losing in no time.

Re: I feel like a failure

I completely agree with Georgiana, don't wait till tomorrow to start again. Start now. Always start now.

I have been on Atkins for three months (this Wednesday), and though I've not cheated during this time I have wanted to oh so bad. I've gone periods of time with no weight change and I've always ended up haveing to do something a little differant to get the ball moving again. I'm now 46 pounds lighter and feel so much better because I knew that only I could change me. Bowls of ice cream and pop corn will bring me happiness for moments before I feel like a loser, but looking at those things and knowing that I am making the choice to be and find me takes me on a high no food can bring me too.

Stay strong hun, you can do this if you want it.

I agree. Just get back on the wagon. You cannot fail if you do that. It is impossible. We all hit certain bumps. Figure out something legal and yummy that you may be able to have those times that you hit a low. For me a bit of cream cheese goes a long way.

We've all been there! The problem is when you allow that one mistake to become an excuse for a week or two of binging! Just make sure that the very next bite you put into your mouth is on plan! And I know it is painful but really look at why you cheated to make sure that you have a strategy to combat it next time it comes up. You can do this!

Re: I feel like a failure

as others have said dont delay start today everyone has moments of weakness. Today is my 15th day so i only just passed the induction stage. There was a day when i was feeling really unwell and wanted to eat cakes/biscuits and crisps but i ended up eating some nuts (which isnt as bad as those other junk food but still not allowed on induction) but that was the only cheat i had and my induction passed and ive lost 13lbs so even if you have one bite of naughtiness it doesnt mean you should keep doing it for the rest of the day.

Whenever i feel like ive ate something that might affect my weight i always try and do some exercise to make up for it!! it always makes me feel better
