I was really sick last night. I caught this crud from my hubby who was bedridden for two days. That is saying something because the man is never sick, and certainly never sick enough to remain in bed. I was suffering all day yesterday and tried to sleep last night but I could not breathe and was achey all over. I had to take Nyquil. It is my savior when I am sick because it allows me to sleep. Nothing works as well for me. Well Nyquil has high fructose corn syrup in it. Since I only took an ounce the amount was small, but it was sugar none the less. I feel much better today, but I feel bad about the sugar. I am losing so slow as it is I feel like it is a setback.

Re: Nyquil Ugh
Hey, you do what you have to do. Just don't let it derail you.
It would be an excellent idea to start taking extra Vitamin D. New research strongly suggests that people get the flu in the wintertime because they don't get enough sunlight to get the Vitamin D our bodies need. Try taking 4000-5000 IU's a day.

Re: Nyquil Ugh
I am a little wary of taking extra vitamin D. You do not need a lot of it and you certainly do not want to take too much. Also I live in California were the weather is good and the sun shines quite a bit. And I spend time outside to soak it up. It is worth looking into though.
I got a flu shot a few weeks ago so hopefully I will be protected from the flu.

Re: Nyquil Ugh
Don't feel bad about taking the nyquil, you will be ok. If you feel like nyquil is the only thing that works, try keeping some of the gel tabs around. It will be less sugar than the syrup. I will be glad when they make a sugarfree nyquil because I know it totally works in helping to sooth the aches and pains. Take care.

Re: Nyquil Ugh
Quick qestion about the nyquil: Does the capsule form have sugar in it? I have the gelcapsule form of nyquil and dayquil becuase even though I'm a nurse, I can't force myself to drink that awful stuff. (When I was a kid and wanted to skip school I would take a wee small sip of cough syrup and it would cause me to throwup- nothing says you get to stay home from school quicker than throwup) So does anyone know about the gelcaps??? I take them out of the box and leave them in the wrapper but have them in special tins. thanks!

Re: Nyquil Ugh
I remember when I had to take Nyquil once. I was pretty nervous. Needless to say I used it that one time and it didn't mess me up. As long as you stay true to the diet in every other aspect you will be fine.223/168/170

Re: Nyquil Ugh
Thanks for the Vit D post. It was a very interesting read! Especially since the prison/hospital mentioned is right around the corner from me! I burn to a crisp with 15 minutes of california sun so I guess I had better see about taking some vit d supplements! I don't use sunscreen but use clothing and hats to block the sun-I have always been wary about putting chemicals on my skin. It is the largest organ of our body!
