  • See this is why i give up !!

    After 3 weeks cheat free i thought i had lost 6 or 7 lbs ... nope, today i weigh myself only to find that not only have i gained it all back but an extra pound too ..... Grrr so basically the last three weeks have been a waste of time and energy and i missed out on ALL X-mass goodies for nothing ....

    I got a box of russel stovers sugar free candy that i have been eatting ... that must be the reason ....

    It just sucks cause it took me 3 weeks to lose 7 lbs and a two days to gain 8 ...

    So now im back to 199 :-(

    Besides the chocolates (which I'm not sure I consider completely legal if you've been eating Atkins for 3 weeks - so Rung 1 of OWL), have you added anything else? I find it hard to believe that you would have gained 8lbs in 2 days. Are you drinking your water?

    The only time my body plays tricks like this is when I have been eating something it does not believe is Atkins-acceptable. On the bright side, when I cut that food, I can usually have my weight drop pretty quickly.

      Yeah i know .. The chocolates are not really legal.. i'v had about 6 of them in the last two days .. I shouldn't have eatten them at all .. They were a gift and it was X-Mass i know thats not a good excuse but i didn't think they would put me this far back ...

      I weighed 192 on the 23rd now im 199 today ??????????? SO BUMMED!!

      I was planning on staying in extended induction for a few more weeks ... ( i have a lot to lose)

        You must be absorbing those sugar alcohol carbs in Russel Stover. It is good to know for the future that sugar alcohol is not something you can deal with. So you have to use other sweeteners if you are to use them. Also when you eat very low carb and then suddenly eat more - you will likely retain water and hence pounds. Drink lots of water - get back on course and that water weight will come off. Keep chin high - you are worth it.

          I think Liv is right-you're probably retaining water. If you ate foods that you didn't prepare yourself you could also have had extra salt that you wouldn't notice that could contribute to that too. I wasn't very good over the holidays either but back on track now so onward and upward (actually hopefully downward?) right!

            also, is it TOM time soon?

            I find that before I drop some weight, my weight goes up and I have a couple of days where i'm extra hungry. then my weight goes below what it was pre-gain. SO HARD not to sweat it. plus, from re-starting so many times before finally properly starting again in the summer, my loss is going so slowly. I keep reminding myself that while it is slow, eating the other way is a surefire way for me to get FAT and QUICKLY. and it certainly sucks.

                Hi Sarah,

                Don't you give up! I highly doubt this is weight gain.....sounds more like water gain to me.

                I know you can do this...three weeks into Induction is not very long. Don't get down on yourself...that is the worst place to be when we're trying hard to fight this fight.

                Eat clean, drink lots of water, exercise and get some good sleep at night. I think what is most important right now is that you stay positive, thinking positively is very important because we can be our worst enemy and come up with all the reasons in the world. Generally the reason this way of eating doesn't seem to be working is because we've reacted to a food we purposely ate (that we shouldn't have), had to much sodium, or we're reacting to sugar alcohol or we've eaten something we didn't realize would throw a little curve ball in our progress.

                We all go through this from time to time, what is important is HOW we get through it. I know you're frustrated but you've got to shake it off and do what you know you need to do to keep going and achieving results

                You lost weight so you see that it works, ditch the chocolate and stock your home with all the legal foods you can eat, drink lots of water and exercise....they go hand in hand!

                Keep us posted on how things are going...you can do this!

                  Like others have said most of it is probably water weight. Eat just the foods for the level of Atkins you are on, drink lots of water, and try and get some exercise in.

                  Are there any other influences like excessive salt, TOM, constipation?

                  Stay strong, get back on track, and you'll be on your way to your goal!

                    I think it looks like water weight too. To get rid of the water, you need to fight it with it's own weapons... drink, drink, drink, drink da water!

                      I am going to echo many others, water! When I get busy and don't drink what I should, my weight loss slows. Also when I drink more water, I tend to eat less, but feel better. Water is our friend! Also, are you exercising enough? Just getting in a 20 minutes walk every day and make a big difference! Hang in there!

                        SO i took everyones advise and drank tons of water for the last couple days... Seems like everything is back in order ... or just about anyway.. I weighed 193.5 today ...

                        But at least now i know that my body doesn't like sugar alc.

                          Hi Sarah,

                          That is great news, thanks so much for the update! I was thinking about you today and wondering how you were doing.

                          So you have definitely proven it was water weight because you're just about down to where you were before the water gain (Looking back at your original post from yesterday). Sugar alcohol can be pretty dreadful....it's a great thing you found out, now you know what you'll for sure need to steer clear of.

                          I'm really proud of you, keep up the great work....you've proven it works!

                          I'm looking forward to hearing more updates on how things are progressing.

                              Ok, what I'm gonna say is TMI and squicky, so bare with me... I've noticed that I don't poo as easily as I used to when I was eatting carbs. With that being said, I can usually drop a pound off in the bowl when I do go. And yes, I use laxatives when it gets too bad. TOM is another that dooms me. Question, though; How do your jeans/pants/shirts fit?
